{"id":12269,"date":"2025-07-21T06:18:12","date_gmt":"2025-07-21T06:18:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/12269\/"},"modified":"2025-07-21T06:18:12","modified_gmt":"2025-07-21T06:18:12","slug":"jannik-sinner-novak-djokovic-and-jack-draper-withdraw-from-canadian-open","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/12269\/","title":{"rendered":"Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic and Jack Draper withdraw from Canadian Open"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Wimbledon champion Jannik Sinner, 24-time <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/tennis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/topics\/tennis\/\">Grand Slam<\/a> title winner Novak Djokovic and No. 5-ranked Jack Draper all withdrew Sunday from the Masters 1000 tournament in Toronto that starts in a week, citing injuries.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">The No. 1-ranked Sinner blamed his right elbow, which he hurt in a fall in the fourth round at the All England Club on the way to his first title there and fourth major trophy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">He won his first Masters 1000 title in Toronto in 2023.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cWinning that title in Toronto two years ago was the start of a really special moment for me, but after speaking with my team, I have to recover,\u201d Sinner said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text mv-16 l-inset text-pb-8\" data-sophi-feature=\"interstitial\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/sports\/tennis\/article-wimbledon-jannik-sinner-carlos-alcaraz-final\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jannik Sinner beats Carlos Alcaraz to win Wimbledon men\u2019s title<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Djokovic said a groin injury was why he pulled out from an event he has won four times.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">He lost to Sinner in the semifinals at Wimbledon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">Draper will miss Toronto and the Cincinnati Masters next month because of a problem with his left arm, meaning he won\u2019t have any hard-court tuneup tournament before the U.S. Open begins on Aug. 24.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-article-body__text text-pr-5\">\u201cAfter Wimbledon I picked up an injury in my left arm, nothing serious, but I have to make sure it recovers fully for the rest of the season,\u201d Draper posted on social media. \u201cUnfortunately, I won\u2019t be able to compete in Toronto and Cincinnati\u2026.
