Angel Reese has been suspended for the first half of the Sky\u2019s game Sunday against the Aces after she called out her Chicago teammates and threatened to go in a \u201cdifferent direction\u201d<\/a> in a recent interview.<\/p>\n

Reese was also previously suspended by the league for the Sky\u2019s game on Friday after recording her eighth technical foul of the season<\/a> earlier this week.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,\u201d the team said in a statement Friday. \u201cWe are committed to accountability so our players can stay focused on playing basketball. Because of the statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reese, in the interview with the Chicago Tribune<\/a>, talked about not \u201csettling for the same s\u2013t we did this year\u201d and potentially needing to do \u201cwhat\u2019s best for me\u201d if something didn\u2019t change.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am very vocal about what we need and what I want,\u201d Reese told the Tribune. \u201cI\u2019d like to be here for my career, but if things don\u2019t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what\u2019s best for me. But while I am here, I\u2019m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also didn\u2019t mince her thoughts about veteran point guard Courtney Vandersloot, who returned to Chicago for this season and tore her ACL during the campaign<\/a> \u2014 telling the Tribune that the Sky \u201ccan\u2019t rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she\u2019s at.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reese attempted to clarify her comments<\/a> following the Sky\u2019s Sept. 3 win, saying that the \u201clanguage is taken out of content.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019m frustrated,\u201d Reese told reporters. \u201cI\u2019m more frustrated with myself right now \u2026 I didn\u2019t mean to intentionally put it on my teammates because they have been through this with me throughout the whole year. They\u2019ve busted their ass just like l\u2019ve busted my ass. They\u2019ve shown up for me through thick and thin in the locker room when nobody could see anything.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Sky enter Friday\u2019s game with a 10-30 record and, once this year concludes, will have missed the playoffs in each of Reese\u2019s first two WNBA seasons.\u00a0<\/p>\n
