<\/p>\n FARMVILLE, Va. \u2014 Nathan Simes scored a pair of goals after halftime and Wofford held on for a 2-1 win over the Longwood men’s soccer team at the Longwood Athletics Complex on Friday.<\/p>\n Simes, who came into play leading the Terriers with two goals and an assist, all put up in Wofford’s 5-2 victory over Coastal Carolina last Sunday, added two more Friday after a scoreless first 45 minutes.<\/p>\n Simes put his team up, 1-0 in the 52nd minute when he ran onto a long ball down the left side, tucking a shot inside the far post, past Longwood goalkeeper Max Hinke<\/a>.<\/p>\n Wofford doubled the lead in the 73rd minute as the Terriers played a corner kick that the glanced off the heads of a Longwood player and the opposition and fell to Simes in the box, who made no mistake.<\/p>\n “It was a difficult result for us tonight,” said Longwood head coach Paul Gilbert<\/a>. “At times, I thought we were really good, and at times not. I felt like we created enough chances to win, but credit to Wofford they capitalized on theirs and we didn’t.”<\/p>\n The Lancers gave themselves a chance, getting on the scoreboard with just 3:26 to play when junior Ezrah Serralde<\/a> hit a screamer from about 22 yards for his first Division I goal. On the play, he collected a ball that David Ambaek<\/a> played from the midfield stripe before coming off the head of Aaron Bruening<\/a>. Serralde deposited a low shot in the right corner of the net to cut the lead in half.<\/p>\n That was as close as the Lancers got, though, snapping a two-match winning streak against Wofford, which improved to 2-2-0 with the win.\u00a0<\/p>\n Hinke made five saves for the Lancers, who outshot Wofford, 12-8 for the match and 8-6 in the second half.\u00a0<\/p>\n Pepe Hinterschuster stopped four shots to earn the win in the Wofford net.<\/p>\n Serralde (two), Brando Bedolla<\/a> and Jose Coutinho<\/a> (one apiece) all had shots on goal for Longwood.<\/p>\n Longwood (1-1-1) is back in action Tuesday at Liberty at 7 p.m., on ESPN+.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
