PORTLAND, Ore. \u2013 The No. 24 Portland Pilots earned a win over the Kansas City Roos 1-0 to improve to 5-0 on the season with five shutouts. The Roos were ranked 17th in the latest College Soccer News Poll and 19th per TopDrawerSoccer.

\nThe Pilots are now unbeaten in their last 15 games dating back to last season. They pushed past the Roos with the game-winner from Anton Hjalmarsson. They have outscored opponents 18-0, posting five straight shutout victories to start the season for the first time since 1988.

\n\u00a0
\nAnton Hjalmarsson scored the first goal of his Pilot career in the 36th minute. Hjalmarsson dispossessed the Roos in the attacking third and launched it past the keeper to give Portland the 1-0 lead.

\nThe Pilots were put at a disadvantage in the second half after Efetobo Aror took a red card in the 73rd minute. Despite that, the Pilots fended off the Kansas City attack thanks to key saves and stellar ball control. Portland earned the 1-0 victory.

\n“First of all, Kansas City is a very good team who’s had a good run of games. They will win a lot of games. There’s a reason they were unbeaten this year, a Sweet 16 team last fall and conference tourney champs in the Summit. So proud of our guys, who I thought deserved the win tonight. There were ebbs and flows in the game, and we made a big save when it was needed from a restart. Was a total program win as we got critical minutes off the bench in all our lines. We grew as the game went on and created enough dangerous moments to score a second goal. Second half we created enough chances and unfortunately did not earn a second. After we got reduced to 10 players the group dug down and did enough to close the game out and secure another clean sheet.”
