{"id":124095,"date":"2025-09-06T11:11:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-06T11:11:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/124095\/"},"modified":"2025-09-06T11:11:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-06T11:11:09","slug":"mets-have-plenty-of-confidence-in-brandon-sproat-ahead-of-mlb-debut","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/124095\/","title":{"rendered":"Mets have plenty of &#8216;confidence&#8217; in Brandon Sproat ahead of MLB debut"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CINCINNATI \u2014 Brandon Sproat\u2019s last 2 \u00bd months at Triple-A Syracuse were enough to convince Mets brass he\u2019s ready for a shot at the highest level.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The right-hander\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/04\/sports\/mets-calling-up-brandon-sproat-for-mlb-debut-in-middle-of-playoff-push\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">major league debut is set for Sunday<\/a> against the Reds, and the Mets are anxiously awaiting the arrival of that talented young arm. <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/06\/sports\/mets-open-to-having-piggyback-starters-in-home-stretch-of-season\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sproat will join Nolan McLean and Jonah Tong<\/a> among top pitching prospects to debut for the club in recent weeks.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am pretty sure [Sproat] was frustrated when he didn\u2019t get the call [previously],\u201d manager Carlos Mendoza said before the Mets faced the Reds on Friday. \u201cBut he went out and said, \u2018Here I am.\u2019 And here is getting an opportunity for us. Jason Szenes for New York Post<\/p>\n<p>Tylor Megill will start another rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse, on Sunday, before a decision is reached on his status, according to Mendoza. The right-hander threw a bullpen session Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Hayden Senger was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to create roster space for Francisco Alvarez. The Mets also activated reliever Wander Suero, who was claimed off waivers from the Braves a day earlier.
