The World Champion then gave the place back at the start of the second tour, but subsequently retook P1 just a couple of laps later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Verstappen was unchallenged from there onwards as he stretched out a gap to keep the <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/teams\/mclaren\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">McLarens<\/a> at bay, going on to <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/latest\/article\/verstappen-charges-to-italian-gp-win-over-norris-and-piastri.6J7R9E9tzOI9Asy6HBmoVf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">clinch the win by 19 seconds<\/a> from Norris.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Reflecting on his drive to victory at <a class=\"text-brand-hot-red underline decoration-1 hover:decoration-[3px]\" href=\"https:\/\/www.formula1.com\/en\/racing\/2025\/italy\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Monza<\/a>, Verstappen said: \u201cIt was a great day for us. Of course Lap 1 was a bit unlucky, but after that we were flying and that was for me really enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cWe managed the pace quite well throughout that first stint, and I think we pitted at the right time, and with the hard tyres at the end you can push a bit more \u2013 they\u2019re a bit more resilient.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cFantastic execution by everyone from the whole team. I think the whole weekend we were on it and it\u2019s super enjoyable to win here.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">Pushed on whether he still felt it was possible to win after handing the lead back in the opening stages, Verstappen added: \u201cI could see that their medium pace was very good.<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">\u201cI just needed to settle in, there was a lot of fighting going on. And then I could see the pace was there \u2013 quite quickly we were back in the lead.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"typography-module_body-s-regular__ul7F5 typography-module_md_body-m-regular__d9VRg typography-module_lg_body-l-regular__dPa5z\">The triumph marked Verstappen\u2019s third in a Grand Prix this season.
