The NASCAR Cup Series<\/a> playoffs continue in the Round of 16 with the Enjoy Illinois 300<\/a> on Sept. 7 at World Wide Technology Raceway.<\/p>\n

The playoffs opened last weekend with Chase Briscoe repeating as Southern 500 champion<\/a> at Darlington. Briscoe is locked into the next round.<\/p>\n

Gateway is the second of three races in the Round of 16, and a couple drivers are in major need of a good day. Josh Berry and Alex Bowman finished outside the top 30 at Darlington and enter the race weekend 19 points behind the cutoff.<\/p>\n

Denny Hamlin is on the pole, a key factor given that many drivers talked during practice and qualifying that track position has added importance at the 1.25-mile oval.<\/p>\n
