Toto Wolff reckons Andrea Kimi Antonelli<\/a> \u201cmade too many mistakes\u201d in a disappointing outing for the Mercedes<\/a> Formula 1 team at the Italian Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

Antonelli crossed the line in eighth, but a five-second penalty for forcing Alex Albon<\/a> off at Turn 3 dropped the 19-year-old rookie to ninth while team-mate George Russell<\/a> finished fifth.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Russell was 32.881s off winner Max Verstappen<\/a>, who dominated from pole despite the championship-leading McLarens of Lando Norris<\/a> and Oscar Piastri<\/a> starting directly behind.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wolff thinks the Red Bull driver \u201cmade everyone else look silly\u201d while ruing an underwhelming weekend for Mercedes at Monza, which keeps it third in the 2025 constructors\u2019 standings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They really need to ask themselves what he\u2019s doing differently,\u201d said Wolff of Verstappen to Servus TV. \u201cOverall, we weren\u2019t competitive over the weekend.<\/p>\n

\u201cA fifth and an eighth place are absolutely not satisfactory. I don\u2019t think, with our current set-up, we have a car that we can consistently drive onto the podium. But Kimi made too many mistakes.<\/p>\n

“He simply needs to put together a solid weekend. Then he\u2019ll be racing on equal terms with Leclerc and George. And with George, things also weren\u2019t completely smooth today.”<\/p>\n

The incident with Albon continued a tough run for Antonelli, who dropped back after a poor start having also caused a red flag for going off in FP2.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that was simply unnecessary,\u201d Wolff told Sky Sports Germany of Antonelli\u2019s manoeuvre.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlbon was so much faster – you can defend yourself, use your elbows if you have to. Or if you can\u2019t defend, then make sure you don\u2019t lose time. But that wasn\u2019t needed.\u201d<\/p>\n
