INDEPENDENCE, Minn. – Paul Beauvy<\/a> finishes the first day\u00a0of the Gopher Invitational tied for third place (-4), just two strokes behind the leaders. Beauvy shot back-to-back 69’s\u00a0and tallied six birdies on the day. The senior from Saint-Alban, France\u00a0shot one-under on Par 4’s, tying the fifth-lowest score in the field, and shot three-under on Par 5’s, tied for the fourth-best score. The Cyclones as a team moved up five spots after the first round to sit in seventh place, carding a 293-284 (+9).<\/p>\n

After shooting four-over in the first round, Zach May<\/a> rallied back to even par (T16th) with a 67 in the second round, tying the second-lowest round of his career. The senior carded a team-high eight birdies in the first two rounds of the tournament. May shot -1 on Par 3’s today, tying the sixth-best mark in the field. Junior Dianchao Wu<\/a> is also tied for 16th after carding a 72-70\u00a0(E). Wu totaled four birdies on the day and also shot -1 on Par 4’s in the first two rounds.<\/p>\n

Jackson McCommon<\/a> is in 75th place (+13) at the end of the first day, carding two birdies. Owen Sawyer<\/a> sits in 79th (+16) with back-to-back 79’s. Sawyer tallied one birdie on the day. In his first career tournament, freshman Julian Geerebaert<\/a> played as an individual and is tied for 49th after carding a 73-75 (+6). Geerebaert\u00a0totaled three birdies in his\u00a0first two rounds.<\/p>\n

West Virginia holds the lead in the team race after the first day, sitting five-under par. Texas A&M’s Aaron Pounds and South Carolina’s Frankie Harris share the individual lead at six-under par.<\/p>\n

The third and final round of the Gopher Invitational will be played tomorrow morning, with tee times beginning at 7:02 CT.<\/p>\n
