{"id":128147,"date":"2025-09-08T06:03:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-08T06:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/128147\/"},"modified":"2025-09-08T06:03:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T06:03:07","slug":"kate-mckinnon-reveals-geographic-tongue-diagnosis-its-gross","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/128147\/","title":{"rendered":"Kate McKinnon Reveals Geographic Tongue Diagnosis: &#8216;It&#8217;s Gross&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/kate-mckinnon\/\" id=\"auto-tag_kate-mckinnon_1\" data-tag=\"kate-mckinnon\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kate McKinnon<\/a> has revealed she was diagnosed with geographic tongue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tDuring a recent interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/snl-alum-kate-mckinnon-reveals-she-was-diagnosed-with-geographic-tongue-11804157\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/people.com\/snl-alum-kate-mckinnon-reveals-she-was-diagnosed-with-geographic-tongue-11804157\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">People magazine<\/a>, the Saturday Night Live alum opened up about the \u201cinflammatory but harmless condition affecting the surface of the tongue,\u201d according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/geographic-tongue\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20354396\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/geographic-tongue\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20354396\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mayo Clinic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cI took a photo of my tongue and sent it to an actor friend of mine,\u201d she said when asked about the most recent photo she took on her phone. \u201cWe both have the same medical condition. It\u2019s called geographic tongue. Your tongue sheds in patches and looks like an atlas, hence the name \u2018geographic tongue.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tWith geographic tongue, patches on the surface of the tongue are missing papillae, which are tiny, pinkish-white bumps, the Mayo Clinic states. The patches will typically appear in one area and then move to a different part of the tongue. While the condition doesn\u2019t cause <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/t\/health\/\" id=\"auto-tag_health_1\" data-tag=\"health\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">health<\/a> issues, it can sometimes cause tongue pain or make it more sensitive to certain foods, including spices, salt and sweets.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s gross,\u201d McKinnon added. \u201cWe brag about how geographic we are on any given day. Maybe I shouldn\u2019t be saying this in a magazine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tAfter starring on SNL for 10 years, she left the long-running sketch comedy show in 2022 after the conclusion of season 47. She later returned to host in 2023 during season 49.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n\tMcKinnon has also starred in the blockbuster Barbie and, more recently, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/the-roses-review-benedict-cumberbatch-olivia-colman-1236351889\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-reviews\/the-roses-review-benedict-cumberbatch-olivia-colman-1236351889\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Roses, alongside Olivia Colman, Benedict Cumberbatch and Andy Samberg<\/a>. The latter film follows Ivy and Theo, a dysfunctional married couple played by Colman and Cumberbatch, whose picture-perfect life together gets upended when Ivy\u2019s career takes off, but Theo gets fired from his job.
