The start of a new NFL<\/a> season means new traditions.<\/p>\n

Welcome to the \u201cbest broadcasting moments of the week\u201d column \u2013 we\u2019re still workshopping the best name for this, but you get the point. Dozens of calls by NFL broadcasters from Thursday to Sunday (sorry Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, but \u201cMonday Night Football\u201d doesn\u2019t fit our publishing schedule) are worthy of inclusion. Only three will make the cut (usually), and I\u2019ll throw in a couple more categories as I deem necessary.<\/p>\n

What did I miss? Consider this my formal solicitation to send anything you, dear reader and consumer, may deem worthy of future inclusion into the weekly post. I\u2019m not that difficult to find. Let me hear it, the same way we all heard these calls during Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season.<\/p>\n

Ian Eagle calls game-winning 60-yard FG \u2026 and is geographically correct<\/p>\n

NFL kickers have never displayed more proficiency from longer distances but Eagle supplied Pittsburgh Steelers kicker Chris Boswell\u2019s game-winning 60-yard field goal with ample excitement. He and new partner J.J. Watt seemed to click during the Steelers\u2019 34-32 victory over the Jets, and the play-by-play announcer made the (very) necessary distinction between New Jersey and New York. Scenes straight out of Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet\u2019s Bob Dylan biopic.<\/p>\n

There is something about a “sweeps the leg” that caresses the soul.<\/p>\n

NBC\u2019s Mike Tirico on Matt Prater\u2019s game-winning FG as time expired<\/p>\n

What a comeback by the Buffalo Bills<\/a> on \u201cSunday Night Football.\u201d As usual, play-by-play announcer Mike Tirico rose to the occasion.<\/p>\n

“32 yards \u2026 Prater \u2026 made it!”<\/p>\n

Simplicity wins, and Tirico\u2019s tone always finds the proper level. And the context never feels out of place.<\/p>\n

Joe Davis calls improbable San Francisco 49ers TD<\/p>\n

Shades of \u201cThe Catch,\u201d<\/a> except Week 1 has slightly different ramifications compared to the NFC championship game. Niners tight end Jake Tonges came down with the improbable catch after quarterback Brock Purdy kept the play alive. Joe Davis, who will take on Major League Baseball postseason duties next month, delivered in one of the most clutch moments of Week 1.<\/p>\n

Thumbs down: RedZone ads<\/p>\n

We used to be a proper country. Seven hours of commercial-free football. Andrew Siciliano, er, Scott Hanson on the call. Now we have commercials. Because you didn\u2019t have enough exposure to Wingstop or DraftKings in your life already. As I wrote regarding the YouTube stream,<\/a> this is just the beginning\u2026<\/p>\n

Honorable Mention: Rich Eisen on Harrison Butker<\/p>\n

We covered this in detail Friday night, and upon further review this was a line Eisen had likely rehearsed \u2013 but if it was indeed done on the fly then all the credit here.<\/p>\n

\u201cHarrison Butker … interestingly enough, is wide right.\u201d<\/p>\n
