The\u00a0Japanese\u00a0economy grew 0.5% over the quarter in the second quarter (Q2) of 2025, the final reading released by Japan\u2019s\u00a0Cabinet Office\u00a0showed on Monday. This reading came in above the market expectation and the previous estimate of 0.3%.<\/p>\n
Japan\u2019s\u00a0Gross Domestic Product (GDP)\u00a0rose at an annual rate of 2.2% in Q2, compared to 1.0% in the previous reading.<\/p>\n

Over the last decade, the BoJ\u2019s stance of sticking to ultra-loose monetary policy has led to a widening policy divergence with other central banks, particularly with the US Federal Reserve. This supported a widening of the differential between the 10-year US and Japanese bonds, which favored the US Dollar against the Japanese Yen. The BoJ decision in 2024 to gradually abandon the ultra-loose policy, coupled with interest-rate cuts in other major central banks, is narrowing this differential.<\/p>\n
