{"id":130473,"date":"2025-09-09T05:30:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T05:30:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/130473\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T05:30:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T05:30:09","slug":"guillermo-del-toro-explains-why-he-ditched-his-2-movie-plan-for-frankenstein-adaptation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/130473\/","title":{"rendered":"Guillermo del Toro Explains Why He Ditched His 2-Movie Plan for \u2018Frankenstein\u2019 Adaptation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Guillermo del Toro wanted to recapture how it must have felt reading \u201cFrankenstein\u201d for the first time \u2014 before it became a ubiquitous cultural institution \u2014 in his adaptation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In a conversation with TheWrap\u2019s Steve Pond at the Toronto International Film Festival, del Toro explained that \u201cthe book has become second nature to me\u201d and strove to make his film feel as close to what it was like to read Mary Shelley\u2019s iconic horror novel for the first time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">More from TheWrap<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cIt\u2019s a lifetime of stuff in that movie, plus the biographical street that completely comes from my life,\u201d he said. \u201cI cannot parcel it and say, \u2018this comes from here, this comes from there.\u2019 Occasionally I can, but it\u2019s about can you renew what it felt to read that book, what it felt to encounter those characters for the first time before they became figures to advertise radiators or cereal cartoons.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a data-ylk=\"ct:story;elm:img;itc:0;\" class=\"stretched-box\" href=\"https:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/join-pro\/?utm_source=article&amp;utm_medium=site&amp;utm_campaign=articlePROpromo&amp;utm_id=070825\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"960\" height=\"247\" decoding=\"async\" data-nimg=\"1\" class=\"rounded-lg\" style=\"color:transparent\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/9c7d0b3beed6f4c9b7c5e1d24c6e24d4.jpeg\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The director added that originally he felt like his \u201cFrankenstein\u201d needed to be two films \u2013 with a point-of-view split between both the titular doctor and from the monster. It wasn\u2019t until later that he realized having a \u201chinge\u201d moment in the middle of the film made the story more exciting than the idea of two separate movies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI realized the best way to do it was to actually have a hinge in the middle of the movie, because it would feel more exciting. It would feel like, \u2018Oh, we\u2019re going to get to see that,\u2019 which is one part of the book that has rarely been tackled and everything that has been tackled before I wanted to do in a different way. In a way that was renewing it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The latest adaptation of Shelley\u2019s classic book premieres in select theaters on October 17 and lands on Netflix November 7. It stars Oscar Isaacs as Viktor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein\u2019s monster.
