Teammates in 2014 as Golden Bears, <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=10783\" rev=\"10783\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mark Korte<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=10131\" rev=\"10131\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">David Beard<\/a> now lineup beside each other on the Elks offensive line. Beard, a 2024 CFL All-Star, is starting his 10th CFL season, while Korte is entering year seven.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Leading the Elks is another Bears alumn in Mark Kilam, who was named the <a href=\"https:\/\/press.goelks.com\/mark-kilam-named-edmonton-elks-head-coach\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">franchise&#8217;s 25th head coach in December<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Other Golden Bears on CFL rosters include 2024 U SPORTS All-Canadian <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=12692\" rev=\"12692\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mack Bannatyne<\/a>, former CW All-Star <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=9184\" rev=\"9184\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tyshon Blackburn<\/a>, All-Canadian safety <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=9193\" rev=\"9193\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jayden Dalke<\/a>, Grey Cup Champion <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=10787\" rev=\"10787\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Justin Lawrence<\/a>, 2023 CW MVP <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=12744\" rev=\"12744\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/sports\/football\/roster\/matthew-peterson\/12744\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12744\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Peterson<\/a><\/a>, former U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year Elk <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=9238\" rev=\"9238\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Josiah Schakel<\/a>,\u00a0and fullback <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=14579\" rev=\"14579\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Morgen Runge<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=12690\" rev=\"12690\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ty Anderson<\/a> (Practice Squad), and <a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/roster.aspx?rp_id=9188\" rev=\"9188\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Rodeem Brown<\/a>\u00a0(Injured List) didn&#8217;t see the field in Week 1.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The CFL taking notice of our players is no accident. With Coach Smith&#8217;s strength program and our dome at Foote Field, our players are built to compete,&#8221; said Bears head coach Stevenson Bone.\u00a0&#8220;Our alumni continue to prove they belong at the next level, as CFL General Manager&#8217;s and scouts continue to ask about who is next in our pipeline.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group of 11 have combined to earn 14 Canada West All-Star selections, 10 U SPORTS All-Canadian selections, one Canada West MVP (<a href=\"https:\/\/bearsandpandas.ca\/sports\/football\/roster\/matthew-peterson\/12744\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"12744\" target=\"_blank\">Matthew Peterson<\/a>), one Canada West and U SPORTS Defensive Player of the Year Award (Josiah Schakel), one CW Lineman of the Year (Korte), and one Canada West Student-Athlete Community Service Award (Schakel).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 11 alumni on CFL rosters is second only to the Calgary Dinos (12) among\u00a0Canada West schools. Each of the 11 Bears alumni were CFL Draft picks, with the Bears having 23 selections over the last eight years.
