A new scheme to help older residents and people with disabilities keep fit has had almost 800 participants in three months.<\/p>\n
The free programme was launched in North Lincolnshire in April and offers eight weeks of off-peak access to swimming, gym facilities and virtual fitness classes.<\/p>\n
The council said 788 people took part between April and July.<\/p>\n
Councillor Rob Waltham, the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: “By removing financial barriers, we’re helping people stay active, connected and well, physically and mentally.”<\/p>\n
The Fit for Free initiative is open to residents aged 66 or over, along with people aged 16 and above who have a learning disability.<\/p>\n
The council said the aim of the scheme was to reduce social isolation, enhance physical and mental wellbeing and encourage more active lifestyles.<\/p>\n
Waltham added: “Fit for Free is about more than just fitness \u2013 it’s about opportunity, connection and giving people the tools to live healthier, happier lives.”<\/p>\n
