The latest entry in the supernatural horror franchise opened well ahead of all competition and is poised to drive strong late-summer business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tMultiplex chain Vue Cinema founder and CEO Tim Richards said: \u201cThe remarkable success of \u2018The Conjuring: Last Rites\u2019 last weekend, grossing $187 million globally and delivering the third largest horror opening ever in the UK and Ireland with \u00a36.8 million, is the latest sign of the horror genre\u2019s phenomenal hold on audiences this year, joining hits like \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/weapons\/\" id=\"auto-tag_weapons\" data-tag=\"weapons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Weapons<\/a>,\u2019 \u2018Final Destination: Bloodlines\u2019 and \u2018Sinners.\u2019 When a film delivers both scares and a great story, audiences turn out in huge numbers because there is simply no substitute for the thrill of horror on the big screen. Sharing every shock and scream together with family or friends is what makes cinemagoing so exciting and appealing, especially, as we\u2019re seeing, for younger audiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn second place, Disney\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/the-roses\/\" id=\"auto-tag_the-roses\" data-tag=\"the-roses\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Roses<\/a>\u201d $2 million in its sophomore session, lifting its total to $7.2 million. Warner Bros.\u2019 \u201cWeapons\u201d held at No. 3 with $506,523 for $15.1 million overall. Disney title \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/freakier-friday\/\" id=\"auto-tag_freakier-friday\" data-tag=\"freakier-friday\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Freakier Friday<\/a>\u201d followed at No. 4, earning $480,572 for a cumulative $11 million. Universal\u2019s \u201cThe Bad Guys 2\u201d rounded out the top five, adding $447,383 and moving its total to $17.1 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSony\u2019s crime drama \u201cCaught Stealing\u201d came in sixth with $411,805, reaching $1.6 million after two weeks. At No. 7, Malayalam-language superhero film \u201cLokah Chapter One: Chandra\u201d from Magic Rays grossed $301,758 to climb to $1.1 million. Disney\u2019s \u201cThe Fantastic Four: First Steps\u201d was eighth with $289,409, its total now at $32 million. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNational Theatre event cinema release \u201cInter Alia \u2013 NT Live 2025\u201d landed in ninth place, drawing $254,959 for a cumulative $1.3 million. Universal\u2019s new entry \u201cHoney Don\u2019t!\u201d rounded out the top 10 on $228,259.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tComing up, anime powerhouse \u201cDemon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba Infinity Castle\u201d arrives in U.K. and Ireland cinemas this week via Sony, expected to draw strong fan turnout. Universal counters with franchise closer \u201cDownton Abbey: The Grand Finale,\u201d aiming to bring period-drama audiences back to the big screen.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOther wide titles include Lionsgate UK\u2019s \u201cThe Long Walk,\u201d a dystopian thriller directed by Francis Lawrence and led by Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson and Mark Hamill, while Sony also unleashes \u201cSpinal Tap II: The End Continues,\u201d continuing the cult rock saga.
