3 Down Nation<\/a>, told reporters Tuesday that Nick Arbuckle will remain in the starter’s role for Saturday’s crucial home game against the Edmonton Elks.<\/p>\nKelly has not played since breaking his leg in last year’s East final. Arbuckle guided the Argonauts to a win in the Grey Cup the next week and has remained the starter this year.<\/p>\n
“Nick’s gonna be getting the start,” said Dinwiddie. “Chad got out there today, got some good practice reps. The ball was live coming off of his hands. I just want to see him move a little more cleaner.”<\/p>\n
Last week, Kelly made a post on social media with the words ‘The Comeback’ and the date of Toronto’s game against the Elks.<\/p>\n
Arbuckle has been very effective the last two weeks, leading the Argos (4-8) to wins in a pair of high-scoring games against the B.C. Lions and Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He leads the CFL with 3,828 passing yards this season and has thrown for 23 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.<\/p>\n
Kelly was the CFL’s most outstanding player in 2023.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think it\u2019s gonna be maybe a week-to-week deal. Chad\u2019s our franchise quarterback, let\u2019s not lose sight of that but Nick\u2019s playing good football and offensively, we\u2019re rolling pretty good,” Dinwiddie said. “I think if we do put Chad out there, I anticipate having the same success on offence. We\u2019ll have to make the best decision for the football club.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re not going to put him out there if he can\u2019t protect himself and put him in harm\u2019s way. We don\u2019t want to make a knee-jerk decision when it comes to that.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Argos are two points back of the B.C. Lions (5-7) and Elks (5-7) for what would be the league’s final playoff spot.
