{"id":132153,"date":"2025-09-09T21:23:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-09T21:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/132153\/"},"modified":"2025-09-09T21:23:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-09T21:23:07","slug":"reporter-addresses-viral-interview-with-ayo-edebiri-julia-roberts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/132153\/","title":{"rendered":"Reporter addresses viral interview with Ayo Edebiri, Julia Roberts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>She couldn\u2019t bear the bizarre question.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>During a recent interview at the Venice Film Festival, Ayo Edebiri had a viral moment after an interviewer excluded her from a question about Black Lives Matter and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/08\/entertainment\/paula-deen-approves-of-matt-lauers-cancellation-in-tiff-doc-some-people-deserve-it\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the #MeToo movement. <\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/26\/entertainment\/the-bear-season-4-review-a-better-dish-than-season-3-but-still-lacking-flavor\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u201cThe Bear\u201d star,<\/a> 29, was being interviewed at the festival with Julia Roberts, 57, and Andrew Garfield, 42, for Luca Guadagnino\u2019s new film, \u201cAfter the Hunt,\u201d which stars the trio of actors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Garfield, Julia Roberts and Ayo Edebiri during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>Edebiri during the interview.<\/p>\n<p>Italian journalist Federica Polidoro for ArtsLife TV asked, \u201cWhat have we lost in the politically correct era, and what we have to expect in Hollywood after the #MeToo movement and the Black Lives Matter are done?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>She specified that her question was posed to Roberts and Garfield.\u00a0Roberts asked her to repeat the question, noting \u201cwith your sunglasses on, I can\u2019t tell which of us you\u2019re talking to.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The interviewer repeated that her question was for Garfield and Roberts.<\/p>\n<p>Journalist Federica Polidoro Federica Polidoro\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know that that\u2019s not for me, and I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s purposeful if it\u2019s not for me\u2026 [but] I don\u2019t think it\u2019s done,\u201d Edebiri interjected. \u201cI don\u2019t think it\u2019s done at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Emmy winner added, \u201cHashtags might not be used as much but I do think that there\u2019s work being done by activists, by people every day that\u2019s beautiful, important work. That\u2019s not finished, that\u2019s really, really active for a reason because this world\u2019s really charged. And that work isn\u2019t finished at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Garfield said that both \u201cmovements are still absolutely alive,\u201d referring to Black Lives Matter and #MeToo, while Roberts spoke up and said that the \u201cwork isn\u2019t finished at all.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Edebiri and Roberts in \u201cAfter the Hunt.\u201d \u00a9MGM\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n<p>One fan took to X<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/blewis1103\/status\/1964464181761233101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> to comment,<\/a> \u201cOne thing we\u2019re not talking enough about: how Ayo Edebiri *had* to be gracious in dealing with this appalling behavior and question because she would\u2019ve been criticized for being \u2018unprofessional\u2019 or \u2018rude\u2019 or every other dogwhistle in the bag.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another person wrote, \u201cAside from Ayo Edebiri being a superstar class act, if I was a journalist and made Julia Roberts lean forward and speak to me this sternly, I would simply turn in my media badge, fill my pockets with rocks, and walk into the ocean.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, Polidoro<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DOUHWCuCEmv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\"> took to Instagram<\/a> to post a statement.<\/p>\n<p> Polidoro\u2019s Instagram statement. federica__polidoro\/Instagram<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing an interview, I have been subjected to personal insults and attacks because of a question that, for some reason, was not well received by some members of the public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added, \u201cI find it striking that those who unjustly accuse me of racism and consider themselves custodians of justice find acceptable violent language, personal attacks, and cyberbullying.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She did not explain, however, why she excluded Edebiri from the question.<\/p>\n<p>Garfield, Roberts and Edebiri.<\/p>\n<p>Polidoro said she wanted to \u201cclarify\u201d that she has interviewed \u201cpeople of every background and ethnicity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that her own family is \u201cmulti-ethnic, matriarchal, and feminist, with a significant history of immigration\u2026\u2026. In my view, the real racists are those who see racism everywhere and seek to muzzle journalism, limiting freedom of analysis, critical thinking, and the plurality of perspectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Edebiri and Roberts at the Venice Film Festival in August. AFP via Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Still, people were not impressed with her explanation. One comment blasted her, writing, \u201cYour lack of accountability is nauseating. You asked a question that expressly concerned people of color, yet you chose not to ask the only woman of color sitting in front of you.
