Poops, pukes, and communication confusions aren\u2019t only the signs of a good night on the grog. They\u2019re regular features of the Tour de France<\/a>, too.<\/p>\n

And this year\u2019s race is no exception.<\/p>\n

After 15 stages and more than 2,300km of racing, this year\u2019s Tour has seen its fair share of \u201cWTF\u201d moments and meme-worthy mess-ups.<\/p>\n

In no particular order, here are seven of the weirdest things we\u2019ve seen so far at this Tour de France:<\/p>\n

The KoM sprint crash nobody saw coming

Crashes at the Tour de France are not something to make light of.<\/p>\n

Just ask Filippo Ganna, Jasper Philipsen, or any of the other victims from this Tour.<\/p>\n

But the bizarre collision<\/a> between Benjamin Thomas and Matt\u00e9o Vercher on stage 1 is one to return to.<\/p>\n

Two breakaway riders sprinting so hard for KoM points that they can\u2019t keep control of their bikes?<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t see that every day in the precision-calibrated modern Tour.<\/p>\n

\u26aa @Ben__Thomas_<\/a> is first at Mont Cassel after a hard-fought sprint. Unfortunately, both riders crashed as they crossed the line and were caught by the peloton.<\/p>\n

As TNT Sports pundit Adam Blythe pointed out at the time of the Tour\u2019s most curious crash, \u201cI don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever seen a more aggressive sprint to the line for the mountain jersey, ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thomas won\u2019t be too concerned by what Blythe has to say.<\/p>\n

The journeyman Frenchman wound up wearing the polka dot jersey the next day.<\/p>\n

Primo\u017e Rogli\u010d wound back the years to the era of no-show socks \u2013 or maybe embraced his inner triathlete \u2013 on the sun-baked 12th stage to Hautacam.<\/p>\n

Rogla\u2019s svelte shiny caves<\/a> spurred so much of a fashion fruror that TV interviewers were compelled to find out more.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s hot, no?\u201d Rogli\u010d told TNT Sports after the stage. \u201cI work on my tan for the summer without the lines.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fair enough.<\/p>\n

Rogli\u010d has won five grand tours. He\u2019s been around the block. And he knows what works for him, no matter what the fashionistas say.<\/p>\n

But while we\u2019re not here to judge, the no-show look certainly \u2026 shows up \u2026 in a peloton of tall aero socks.<\/p>\n

Mike Woods\u2019 explosive encounter with the toilet of an RV<\/a> remained off-camera, thankfully.<\/p>\n

Woods\u2019 emergency pit stop at the Tour de France is nothing all that unusual.<\/p>\n

Most racers will have suffered a \u201cDumoulin moment\u201d in a pro peloton propelled by thousands of calories of sugars.<\/p>\n

But few recount it with the vivid, gut-broiling honesty of the blog that Woods wrote to unpack the Tour\u2019s 10th stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe knot in my stomach only got worse. I tried to breathe, I tried to ride through it, but I was hit with the realization that I was about to have my Dumoulin moment,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Praise be for the roadside camper, Woods typed.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo the poor, very kind, and dumbfounded, man who opened his RV door to me, I want to first say thank you, but also apologize profusely for the state I left your bathroom in,\u201d reads his blog.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet\u2019s just say, 120 g of carbs per hour for four consecutive hours does not come out nicely.\u201d<\/p>\n

Say no more.<\/p>\n

A puke-provoking attack

On the topic of G.I. distress, it seems that riding in a two-man breakaway with Mathieu van der Poel can generate some issues, too.<\/p>\n

Jonas Rickaert confessed the intensity of his 170km long-bomb with MVDP caused some unforecasted expulsions.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy stomach couldn\u2019t handle the effort. I vomited five times,\u201d Rickaert told Sporza after his big day off the front of the Tour\u2019s 9th stage.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy clothes looked terrible after the finish. But it was worth it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Worth it indeed.<\/p>\n

Rickaert\u2019s joke to attack from the flag-drop became a reality that earned him a career-topping trip to the Tour de France podium to receive \u201cmost combative rider\u201d award.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s hoping he cleaned up a bit before he went to collect his trophy.<\/p>\n

Alaphilippe, chivalrous sign stealer

Julian Alaphilippe: French favorite, double world champion, panache merchant \u2026 and sign-stealer extraordinaire.<\/p>\n

It was a full \u201cWTF\u201d when cameras caught Alaphilippe snatching a sign from a roadside fan on Saturday\u2019s 14th stage.<\/p>\n

The written message wasn\u2019t even directed at Alaphilippe? It was to stoke Wout van Aert?<\/p>\n

And who wants a soggy bit of cardboard atop the Tourmalet?<\/p>\n

It turns out LuLu does.<\/p>\n

Stuffing newspaper or cardboard up the jersey as a windblocker is the oldest trick in the book.<\/p>\n

#TDF2025<\/a><\/p>\n

Yesterday, just before the summit of the Tourmalet, Julian Alaphilippe grabbed a cardboard sign from a fan. He tucked it under his jersey to keep warm on the descent. Later, he apologized to the woman. The sign read: \u201cWout doesn\u2019t know it yet, but we\u2019re getting\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/TIBJTkP834<\/a><\/p>\n

But fear not, Alaphilippe is a gentleman.<\/p>\n

He met with the spectator the next day to make recompense.<\/p>\n

\u201cI gave her a bib, and she took a picture with Wout [who was also in attendance],\u201d Alaphilippe said the day after \u201csign-gate.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of this, she had a better time compared to what she would have experienced at the top of the Tourmalet.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alaphilippe\u2019s apology was only the beginning of what had to be the craziest day he\u2019s experienced<\/a> in his seven starts at the Tour de France.<\/p>\n

Crash hard, dislocate shoulder, pop it back, break radio, sprint for a \u201cwin\u201d that was actually third place?<\/p>\n

All in a Sunday\u2019s work for Alaphilippe on the roads into Carcassonne.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe radio didn\u2019t work after my crash,\u201d Alaphilippe said after Sunday\u2019s stage. \u201cLike an idiot, I sprinted to try and win \u2026 et voil\u00e0.\u201d<\/p>\n

Oh la la.<\/p>\n

Possibly the worst bit? Alaphilippe has celebrated a non-win before.<\/p>\n

All the TT helmets

Let\u2019s face it, time trial stages at the Tour de France are a day-long weird out.<\/p>\n

Enormous TT helmets optimized to smooth airflow across the shoulders have been \u201ca thing\u201d for years. But even now, those oversized lids and face-consuming vizors still draw a bit of a snicker.<\/p>\n

Visma-Lease a Bike (Giro), EF Education-EasyPost (POC), Uno-X Mobility (SweetProtection), Bahrain-Victorious (Rudy), and XDS Astana (XDS) were some personal favorites from the stage 5 helmet horror fest.<\/p>\n
