One of the Colts\u2019 recent first-round picks is set for a breakout year, according to one NFL analyst.<\/p>\n
In 2023, Indianapolis selected defensive end Laiatu Latu<\/a> with the 15th overall pick. While the former UCLA Bruin didn\u2019t make his mark right away, defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo expects significant progress from Latu in his second season as he sees him as a critical part of his schematic plan, and for good reason.<\/p>\n Advertisement<\/p>\n NFL.com<\/a>\u2019s Bucky Brooks sees the vision, too. Brooks named Latu to his 2025 All-Breakout Team<\/a> on the defensive side. He recognized Latu\u2019s natural pass-rushing talent and urged Anarumo to utilize him more.<\/p>\n \u201cLatu’s impact in a rotational role should prompt new Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo to create a plan to unleash the 6-foot-5, 265-pound playmaker,\u201d he writes. \u201cWith more stunts, games and isolations designed to exploit favorable matchups on the edges, Latu can post impressive numbers as a second-year pro with a polished game.\u201d<\/p>\n Latu was initially set for a reduced role as a rookie, but a season-ending Achilles injury to Samson Ebukam<\/a> opened the door for more opportunities. Still, he was a part of a deep rotation which included veterans Kwity Paye<\/a>, Dayo Odeyingbo and Tyquan Lewis<\/a>. In the end, he recorded 4.0 sacks 16 solo tackles, 12 quarterback hits, three forced fumbles, and 38 QB pressures.<\/p>\n
