{"id":135732,"date":"2025-09-11T08:42:50","date_gmt":"2025-09-11T08:42:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/135732\/"},"modified":"2025-09-11T08:42:50","modified_gmt":"2025-09-11T08:42:50","slug":"could-an-oil-pipeline-to-b-c-s-north-coast-be-back-on-the-agenda","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/135732\/","title":{"rendered":"Could an oil pipeline to B.C.\u2019s North Coast be back on the agenda?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly a decade after former prime minister Justin Trudeau <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/3094856\/northern-gateway-pipeline-line-3-approval-announcement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">pulled the plug on the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline to B.C.\u2019s North Coast<\/a>, it appears the concept may be back on the drawing board.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>New Prime Minister Mark Carney has pledged to fast-track a series of new \u201cnation-building\u201d industrial projects in response to the ongoing trade war with the United States.<\/p>\n<p>And a new Northwest Coast Oil Pipeline could be one of those priorities, according to a list of 32 major projects obtained by newspaper The Globe and Mail this week.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-video__image\" alt=\"Click to play video: 'One year of trans mountain pipeline'\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/GNMTRANSMOUNTAINPIPELINESTILL.jpg\" loading=\"lazy\"   data-\/><\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t5:39<br \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tOne year of trans mountain pipeline\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The proposal, described as being in the \u201cconcept\u201d phase, could be pursued within a larger economic corridor, and would link \u201cCanadian heavy crude to markets in Asia,\u201d the Globe reports.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>The list includes a heavy focus on Western Canada, with other projects including an LNG Canada Phase 2 and the dredging of the Burrard Inlet to allow for larger oil tankers to serve Trans Mountain\u2019s Burnaby Mountain terminal.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"170\" height=\"225\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/1756402221_230_national.jpg\" alt=\"Get the day's top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.\"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tGet daily National news<\/p>\n<p>Get the day&#8217;s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day.<\/p>\n<p>Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has long championed the concept. Environmental groups and First Nations in British Columbia have opposed the prospect of a new pipeline to the North Coast, citing Indigenous sovereignty, environmental impacts and the prospect of a devastating bitumen spill in the region\u2019s rough and remote seas.<\/p>\n<p>B.C. They are doing that. The private sector is doing that, and we are investing in the future in B.C., especially in terms of electrification,\u201d Energy Minister Adrian Dix said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd we expect and hope the federal government will get behind real projects \u2026 this is not a time for fantasy politics.
