Fall has always been nature’s time for transformation\u2014it seems like when trees begin shedding their summer greens for burnished golds and deep crimsons, the whole world is ready to hit refresh. This year, it feels like everyone’s taking notes.<\/p>\n

“Homes are shifting to feel more personal, curated, and grounded,” says Lauren Lerner of Living with Lolo<\/a>, and she’s seeing clients embrace the season’s transformative energy in their own spaces. “Clients want homes that reflect their lifestyle and feel like a retreat.\u201d<\/p>\n

So what’s actually making the cut this season? We surveyed designers to decode the trends<\/a> worth embracing, and the tired looks finally getting the boot.<\/p>\n

In: Earthy, Deep Tones\"Living<\/p>\n

\u201cThis season I\u2019m drawn to rich, organic colors inspired by nature,\u201d says Sarah Solis of Sarah Solis Design Studio<\/a>. \u201cEarth tones are pulled from stone, bark, and foliage feel especially resonant right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Krista Alterman of Krista + Home<\/a> is leaning into \u201csexy, deep tones such as burgundy, plum, and mocha\u201d for what she calls \u201cseasonal intimacy\u201d\u2014spaces designed for snuggling up when the weather turns chilly.<\/p>\n

The secret to nailing this trend? Color drenching<\/a>. Solis recommends “immersing a room in one tonal family and then playing with subtle shifts in texture and materiality,” citing the magic of layering different browns drawn from nature\u2014stone, soil, leaves\u2014to create environments that feel “grounded and soulful.”<\/p>\n

Out: Fast Fashion Design<\/p>\n

According to designers, homeowners are asking for homes that feel custom, curated, and personal. \u201cFast trends and catalog looks are out,\u201d says Lerner. \u201cQuick-ship furniture is losing its appeal as clients prioritize investment-worthy, lasting pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cClients seem to be shying away from trends and wanting their own sense of self to come out in their spaces,\u201d Lindsay Olson of Lulu Designs<\/a> says. \u201cIt has been less about trends and more about being unique and custom-fit to the client’s aesthetic and lifestyle.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anthologist<\/a> founder Andria Mitsakos sums up the shift: \u201cFast, one-click accent buying is out. Clients are editing and investing\u2014fewer, better, and with a story,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

In: Collector\u2019s Paradise\"michael<\/p>\n

\u201cNobody is asking for minimalism,\u201d Mitsakos says. \u201cPeople want to become collectors. They suddenly want coffee tables full of adornments.\u201d<\/p>\n

This shift towards what Mitsakos calls \u201ccollector\u2019s layering\u201d means mantels and tablescapes loaded with small-scale sculptures, ceramics, and found objects\u2014but with purpose. Beth Dotolo of Pulp Design Studios<\/a> is seeing clients embrace \u201cbold patterns\u201d and \u201cpersonalized looks,\u201d and notes that mixing and layering is resonating across all markets.<\/p>\n

Carolina V. Gentry, also of Pulp Design Studios, is particularly excited about the death of mass-produced wall candy: “The one thing we’re thrilled that clients no longer ask for is decorator art. Original art is so much better for showcasing personality and life in your home.”<\/p>\n

Out: Shiny Everything<\/p>\n

The mirror-and-chrome moment has run its course. High-gloss chrome and mirrored furniture and hardware are getting the boot, says Mitsakos. \u201cCooler metals still work in balance, but hyper-reflective pieces are being replaced by aged brass, bronze, and pewter finishes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Even windows aren\u2019t immune to the anti-bare aesthetic. \u201cBare windows are definitely pass\u00e9,\u201d says Dotolo. \u201cWe love gorgeous drapery that can frame the view and be a stunning focal point on its own.\u201d The goal is now warmth and texture over stark reflective surfaces that feel cold and impersonal.<\/p>\n

In: Handcrafted Textures\"Cozy<\/p>\n

The pendulum has swung hard toward pieces that show the maker\u2019s hand. Mitsakos is loving \u201csubstantial craft and patina\u201d\u2014think mixed warm metals (bronze, aged brass, hammered copper), matte glazes, hand-stitched edges, and imperfect rims. \u201cPeople want to feel the hand in the work,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

Deborah Wecselman of Wecselman Design <\/a>is seeing ceramics having a major moment, both in finishes and as handcrafted objects that add soulful layers to interiors, she says. And don\u2019t sleep on textiles: Mitsakos notes that heirloom-quality throws, table linens, and vintage or hand-loomed pieces are back in rotation, whether draped over sofas, stacked on benches, or placed under trays.<\/p>\n

Out: Cookie-Cutter Perfection<\/p>\n

The showroom look is toast. Mitsakos is seeing the end of matching sets, with \u201cidentical pairs and showroom sets giving way to collected, time-layered mixes\u2014old with new, refined with rustic,\u201d she says. Lerner echoes this sentiment: \u201cClients don\u2019t want cookie-cutter looks, mid-century replicas, and matching furniture sets,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

The verdict? This fall is all about spaces with soul, character, and purpose, and an aversion to anything that looks like it rolled off a factory floor.<\/p>\n
