The Yankees are fighting for their lives in the AL East, but they’re also fighting to stay above Boston for home field advantage in a potential Wild Card Series matchup. They sat just a half-game up on their archrivals entering play on Friday, meaning they need to win this series to stay above them and give themselves a decent shot at holding onto the top seed, and they did everything they needed to in the opening game of the series. Luis Gil worked around some walks to deliver six hitless innings of work, the bullpen didn’t implode, and Aaron Judge got the scoring started early with his 47th home run of the year. New York has been badly bested by Boston all year, but all can be forgiven if they bury them with a strong series right at the end leading into a deep October run. Let’s see if they can make that happen.

They’ll have an afternoon matchup as they look to secure the series win today, but before that gets going here’s what to expect from us. Josh starts us off by opining on the Yankees’ mishandling of Anthony Volpe this year, and how it’s a worrying trend for the franchise. Then I’ll be back to deliver the Rivalry Roundup, Nick Power has his latest rotation depth look in, Sam covers the 2000 Yankees’ victory in the latest Diary entry, and Scott looks into the RailRiders as they have struggled near the end of the season against Lehigh Valley.

1. What will Aaron Judge’s home run total be at the end of the year after this latest heater he’s on?

2. Will it be the Jose Caballero show at shortstop from here on out, or will we still see a decent amount of Anthony Volpe?

[435
465,14251,3333,3959,49,48,14925,17950,462,82,72682,1505
post-140821","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-mlb","tag-aaron-judge","tag-anthony-volpe","tag-boston","tag-boston-red-sox","tag-ca","tag-canada","tag-jose-caballero","tag-luis-gil","tag-mlb","tag-sports","tag-wild-card-series","tag-yankees
["GET
