On Monday, July 21, the actor-comedian, 58, revealed on Good Morning America<\/a> that since the comedy classic released in 1996, fans have begged him for another chapter in the titular golfer\u2019s story \u2014 and at some point, he started to agree with them.<\/p>\n When GMA co-anchor Michael Strahan<\/a> asked Sandler why he decided to bring the beloved character out of retirement, the actor said, “When I walk down the street a lotta times people will say, ‘You ever gonna do Happy Gilmore 2?\u2019 And for 28 years, I was like, ‘What are you talking about? No.’ \u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd then all of a sudden,” he said, “I was like, ‘Maybe.’ “<\/p>\n AJ Pics \/ Alamy<\/p>\n Adam Sandler in ‘Happy Gilmore’<\/p>\n As for where Happy is now, where upcoming sequel Happy Gilmore 2<\/a> starts off, Sandler said his \u201clife isn’t perfect right now\u201d \u2014 at least \u201cat the beginning of the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cAnd he’s a family man, and he’s gettin’ back into the golf game,\u201d Sandler teased of the quotable character.<\/p>\n The sequel cast is stacked, with Ben Stiller<\/a>, Christopher McDonald<\/a> and Julie Bowen<\/a> reprising their roles alongside newcomers like Travis Kelce<\/a>, Bad Bunny<\/a> and a whole lot of pro golfers. When asked how this star-studded group was assembled, the comedy legend told Strahan, \u201cI don’t know how it happened.\u201d<\/p>\n “We wrote \u2018em stuff [and] everybody was kind enough to come,\u201d the actor said. \u201cAnd everybody in it did a great job.\u201d<\/p>\n “Every day\u201d on set, he added, \u201csomeone cool would show up and we’d hang out.”<\/p>\n Earlier this year, McDonald \u2014 who reprises his role as Happy\u2019s nemesis Shooter McGavin in the upcoming sequel \u2014 told PEOPLE that Sandler and Netflix have “outdone themselves\u201d with the movie<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat I love about Adam Sandler is his heart. He’s got so much love for people … And he’s done some amazing work in the last few years. This is kind of a big deal,\u201d he said at the time.<\/p>\n Sandler has, however, teased a bit about the sequel \u2014 even before his recent GMA appearance. Last year, Sandler appeared on Happy Gilmore 2 costar Kelce\u2019s podcast New Heights<\/a>, where he revealed that his character is now \u201ca bit of a mess.\u201d<\/p>\n “The movie itself picks up from an older guy who played golf a long time,\u201d he said on the podcast. \u201cSome stuff goes on in his life, and he’s different \u2014 he’s a bit of a mess.
