{"id":14148,"date":"2025-07-22T00:29:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T00:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/14148\/"},"modified":"2025-07-22T00:29:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T00:29:10","slug":"asia-stock-markets-today-live-updates-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/14148\/","title":{"rendered":"Asia stock markets today: live updates"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Japan&#8217;s Nikkei 225 share average rises in early trade<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s\u00a0\u00a0rose in early trade Tuesday, as markets reopened after the ruling party lost its majority in the upper house<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/20\/japan-pm-laments-harsh-election-result-as-upper-house-control-slips.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> over the weekend<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The 225-stock share average advanced 1.12% to hit 40,254.18 at 9.17 a.m. local time (8.17 p.m. ET Monday), while the broader Topix index added 0.96% to 2,861.63.<\/p>\n<p>Stock Chart IconStock chart icon<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static-redesign.cnbcfm.com\/dist\/a54b41835a8b60db28c2.svg\" class=\"Collapsible-dismissButton\" alt=\"hide content\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Nikkei 225<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets start the higher<\/p>\n<p>Asia-Pacific markets opened higher Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>As of 8.10 a.m. Singapore time (8.10 p.m. ET), Japan&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a> benchmark added 0.91% while the broader Topix index increased by 0.83%.<\/p>\n<p>In South Korea, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.KS11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kospi<\/a>\u00a0index ticked up 0.1% while the small-cap Kosdaq advanced 0.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Over in Australia, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a> benchmark rose 0.54%.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Amala Balakrishner<\/p>\n<p>Here are the opening calls for the day <\/p>\n<p>Good morning from Singapore.<\/p>\n<p>Investors will be keeping a close watch on Japan&#8217;s equity and bond markets, which will reopen after a national holiday following its election.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2025\/07\/21\/asia-stock-markets-today-live-updates.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Japanese yen strengthened against the greenback<\/a> on Monday, after weakening in the weeks leading up to the election.<\/p>\n<p>Japan&#8217;s benchmark\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.N225\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nikkei 225<\/a>\u00a0was set to open higher, with the futures contract in Chicago at 39,830 while its counterpart in Osaka last traded at 39,820, against the index&#8217;s last close of 39,819.11.<\/p>\n<p>Futures for Hong Kong&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.HSI\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Hang Seng index<\/a>\u00a0stood at 25,049, pointing to a stronger open compared with the HSI&#8217;s Monday close of 24,994.14.<\/p>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.AXJO\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">S&amp;P\/ASX 200<\/a>\u00a0was set to start the day lower with futures tied to the benchmark at 8,660, compared with its last close of 8,668.20.<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Amala Balakrishner<\/p>\n<p>U.S. equity futures rise in early Asia hours&#8217;Small surprises could trigger sharp reactions,&#8217; strategist says<\/p>\n<p>The stock market may be unusually calm, with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/.VIX\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">CBOE Volatility Index (VIX)<\/a> remaining notably muted all month in spite of ongoing risks around trade and inflation, one strategist said. However, that could change quickly in the coming weeks. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;With next week bringing the FOMC meeting, GDP data, a key tariff deadline, and a wave of earnings \u2014 in a historically weak window for the markets \u2014 even small surprises could trigger sharp reactions,&#8221; wrote Mark Hackett, chief market strategist at Nationwide. &#8220;We&#8217;re in a window where calm can quickly turn to complacency.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;While a break in either direction is possible, current positioning suggests we&#8217;d bet on a rally before a drop,&#8221; Hackett wrote. <\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sarah Min<\/p>\n<p>S&amp;P 500, Nasdaq hit record closing highs<\/p>\n<p>The S&amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite finished Monday&#8217;s session with fresh closing records after both indexes scored new all-time intraday highs.<\/p>\n<p>The broad market S&amp;P 500 gained 0.14% to close at 6,305.60, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq climbed 0.38% to end at 20,974.17.
