{"id":143972,"date":"2025-09-14T19:39:07","date_gmt":"2025-09-14T19:39:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/143972\/"},"modified":"2025-09-14T19:39:07","modified_gmt":"2025-09-14T19:39:07","slug":"broncos-dominate-hope-college-invitational","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/143972\/","title":{"rendered":"Broncos Dominate Hope College Invitational"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n                    &#13;<br \/>\n                        Story Links&#13;<br \/>\n                        &#13;<br \/>\n    &#13;<br \/>\n&#13;<\/p>\n<p>                     HOLLAND, Mich. &#8212; The Western Michigan women&#8217;s tennis team opened its 2025-26 season at the Hope College Fall Invitational on Friday and Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The Broncos went a combined 23-3 in singles and 11-1 in doubles, with the only losses occurring to their teammates.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>SINGLES<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nAll singles matches were played as one set to eight games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Graduate student <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/lola-glantz\/15021\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15021\" target=\"_blank\">Lola Glantz<\/a> went 3-0 to win the Singles A Draw. She opened with a win over Calvin College&#8217;s Marina Ribeiro, 8-1, in the quarterfinals after a first round bye. She then defeated Hope&#8217;s Hadley Krygier 8-0 in the semifinals. Glantz was pitted against teammate and sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/sienna-osborne\/15019\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15019\" target=\"_blank\">Sienna Osborne<\/a> in the finals. Osborne&#8217;s path to the finals started with an 8-0 win over Kalamazoo College&#8217;s Addison Lyons in the quarterfinals after receiving an opening-round bye. She then defeated HC&#8217;s Amanda Lopykinski, 8-1, in the semifinals. Glantz bested her teammate, 8-2, in the finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In the Singles B Draw it was another two Broncos meeting in the finals. Sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/frida-weijerman\/15020\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15020\" target=\"_blank\">Frida Weijerman<\/a> had an opening round draw and then defeated Spring Arbor&#8217;s Dayra Novella, 8-3) in the quarterfinals and Ohio Northern&#8217;s Jamie Hurst, 8-2, in the semifinals. Graduate student <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/polina-khotko\/14737\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14737\" target=\"_blank\">Polina Khotko<\/a> also had a bye, then besting John Carroll&#8217;s Madelin Kavenagh, 8-5, in the quarterfinals and ONU&#8217;s Abby Cruser in the semifinals, 8-0. Khotko picked up the win in the draw after Weijerman was forced to withdraw due to injury.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Singles C Draw went to WMU freshmen <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/ayana-yaguchi\/15720\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15720\" target=\"_blank\">Ayana Yaguchi<\/a> over teammate and senior <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/audrey-smitek\/14738\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"14738\" target=\"_blank\">Audrey Smitek<\/a>, 8-2. While Smitek had an opening-round bye, Yaguchi made her collegiate debut with an 8-0 win over Roosevelet&#8217;s Nathalie Ramazzini, 8-0. Yaguchi then picked up wins over Hope&#8217;s Amolia Rossow, 8-2, and SAU&#8217;s Lilah Dean, 8-3. Smitek advanced with wins over Ohio Northern&#8217;s Amy Grace Beebe, 8-2, and Saint Mary&#8217;s Evelyn Demblans-Dechans, 8-2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sophomore <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/marielou-baudouin\/15443\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15443\" target=\"_blank\">Marielou Baudouin<\/a> swept through Singles D Draw, going 3-0 after wins of 8-5, 8-1, and 8-1 in the final against HC&#8217;s Sophia Grzesiak. Freshman <a href=\"https:\/\/wmubroncos.com\/sports\/womens-tennis\/roster\/xingtong-jiang\/15721\" rel=\"smarttag nofollow noopener\" rev=\"15721\" target=\"_blank\">Xingtong Jiang<\/a> also swept the Singles E Draw, going 4-0 with wins of 8-3, 8-3, 8-2, and 8-4 over JCU&#8217;s Felicity Kolb in the finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>DOUBLES<br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Doubles A Draw final featured Osborne and Khotko against Glantz and Yaguchi, with Glantz and Yaguchi earning the 6-4 win. Osborne and Khotko started their run to the finals with a quarterfinals win over Emma Kealy and Shannon Dudy from Saint Mary&#8217;s College, 6-2. The duo then dispatched Ohio Northern&#8217;s Jenna Bell and Abby Cruser, 6-0. Glantz and Yaguchi opened things up with a 6-0 win in the quarterfinals against RU&#8217;s Zeynep Barut and Nathalie Ramazzini and a 6-3 win against Hope&#8217;s Krygier and Amanda Lopykinski.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Baudouin and Weierjman won the Doubles B Draw, opening things with a 6-0 win over KC&#8217;s Maya Lee and Peja Liles in the quarterfinals. They then defeated SMC&#8217;s Sophia Pischalko and Demblans-Dechans, 6-1, in the semifinals before a 6-3 win over Roosevelt&#8217;s Ximena Mercado and Esther Magnusson in the finals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Smitek and Jiang gave the Broncos the win in Doubles C Draw. The pair opened with a 6-0 quarterfinals win over Grace Sweet and Betta Klein from Kalamazoo Colleg. They then picked up a 6-1 win in the semifinals over RU&#8217;s Sophie Christie and Lara Sener. The duo picked up the draw win, 6-0, over Northern Ohio&#8217;s Leah Schleibaum and Molly McLane.<\/p>\n<p>Western Michigan returns to action Oct. 3-5 when it hosts the 2025 MAC Fall Individual Championships.
