Yang opened up to People<\/a> about why he\u2019s decided to stick around for another season and the words of wisdom he received from the show\u2019s creator, Lorne Michaels.<\/p>\n He told the outlet, \u201cI\u2019ve always gone by the instinct of, do I have more to do? And I feel like I do.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cEven Lorne and I talked about it, and Lorne was like, \u2018You have more to do,\u2019 and that means a lot, because I even confessed to him,\u201d Yang explained. \u201cI was like, \u2018I feel the audience is maybe getting sick of me.\u2019 And he was like, \u2018That\u2019s not true. There\u2019s more for you to do. I need you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Yang said that he has \u201cto honor that,\u201d adding, \u201cThat man has changed my life, and I owe a lot of my life to that show. And I love working there, the people are the best. I really love each of them so much.\u201d <\/p>\n The comedian became a writer on the show in 2018 before joining the cast the next year in 2019. During his time on \u201cSNL,\u201d he’s become a versatile cast member, including several memorable moments at the \u201cWeekend Update\u201d desk as the iceberg that sunk the Titanic<\/a> and Moo Deng.<\/a><\/p>\n As for how Yang feels going into a new season with several of his cast members not returning, he shared, \u201cWhat I\u2019ve always thought, what I think everybody knows, is that \u2018SNL\u2019 is this boot camp, and that implies that there is a next phase you train for something else.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s always a transitional place, and I think it is always a launching pad,\u201d he added, using co-star Kenan Thompson as an example. \u201cI think that\u2019s going to be true for all of the people who aren\u2019t coming back. I\u2019m so excited to see what they do. I\u2019m excited for the new cast.\u201d<\/p>\n In an August interview with Puck News,<\/a> Michaels teased an impending shakeup after the show\u2019s landmark 50th season. <\/p>\n Subsequent weeks revealed the results, including the departure of new cast members Michael Longfellow, Devon Walker and Emil Wakim, and writers Ben Higgins<\/a> and Celeste Yim.<\/a><\/p>\n Gardner, who joined the show in 2017, has not acknowledged her departure publicly yet. <\/p>\n Nwodim, who joined in 2018, announced her departure from the show on Sept. 12 after the cast had seemingly been solidified. <\/p>\n The comedian shared a statement on Instagram<\/a> that she would be leaving \u201cafter seven unforgettable seasons,\u201d writing in part, \u201cWeek after week on that stage taught me more than I could have ever imagined, and I will carry those memories (and that laughter) with me always.\u201d<\/p>\n Chloe Fineman, who is entering her seventh season on the show, told Extra TV<\/a> on Sept. 11 that the shakeups at \u201cSNL\u201d were \u201cpretty wild.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSome shocking stuff,\u201d she added. \u201cA little heartbreak, sadness.
