NASCAR was forced into a mid-race rule change after drivers’ fury at Bristol.<\/a><\/p>\nDoug Kalitta\u2019s Top Fuel Dragster got the win over Stewart in their race, but Kalitta\u2019s front left tire suffered a malfunction. His vehicle crashed into Stewart in a scary scene, but both drivers were able to get out of the cars under their own power.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The NHRA released a statement regarding the massive crash involving Stewart, which read: \u201cDuring the second round of Top Fuel eliminations on Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway, Doug Kalitta\u2019s dragster crossed the center line past the finish and collided with Tony Stewart\u2019s dragster in the left lane.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cStewart\u2019s dragster went on its side, came back down on its wheels and struck the left guard wall before coming to a stop, while Kalitta\u2019s dragster went back over the center line before coming to a stop.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cBoth Stewart and Kalitta were alert and exited their cars under their own power. They were examined onsite by NHRA Chief Medical Officer Dr. Surface before being released.\u201d<\/p>\n
Stewart spoke about the incident himself, admitting he couldn\u2019t remember anything regarding the crash. He said: \u201cI don’t have a damn clue, honestly. I don’t remember any of it. The first thing I remember, they’re waking me up here.\u00a0<\/p>\n
