Rodney Graber, CRU Concrete\u2019s longest-serving employee, taught Pedro Valerio Cano the tricks of the trade.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m proud of him. It\u2019s a trade. You learn every day. I still learn, which I like about it,\u201d Graber said.<\/p>\n
Ken Kurszewski, who took over the now 80-year-old company in 2009, said the company emphasized training and development.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe always stress learning and growing, trying new things,\u201d Kurszewski said.<\/p>\n
Graber helped Valerio Cano step up and reach his potential with detail-oriented hands-on work.<\/p>\n
\u201cA little bit OCD and likes to make sure things are like, perfectly flat, square, stuff like that. I really get to, like, perfect it or whatever, make sure everything\u2019s perfect\u2026\u201d Valerio Cano said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m so happy with seeing younger generation come up through the ranks,\u201d Graber added.<\/p>\n
Kurszewski said employees can make a great living while enjoying a balanced schedule.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can go home and not have the stress of, you know, what am I doing the next day? You\u2019ve got a foreman that helps figure those things out. And get to be home at night. You get to be home on the weekends, and then you get to be outside during the day,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cA bunch of benefits to it here and there,\u201d Valerio Cano added.<\/p>\n
Graber highlighted the stability of the work.<\/p>\n
\u201cHouses, the driveways. Oh, it\u2019s starting to break up?\u00a0 You\u2019re going to need new\u2026 So you will always have a job is what I\u2019m saying about this trade,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
