The Swiss star, aged 40 years and eight months, was ultimately beaten in the championship match by the first seed, Hugo Gaston, who denied him the chance to break Ivo Karlovic\u2019s record.<\/p>\n

Wawrinka<\/a> suffered his second defeat in a Challenger Tour final this year, following his near miss in Aix-en-Provence in May.<\/p>\n \u201cEmotionally, it was exceptional,\u201d he said after his clash with Gaston, as reported by Ouest-France<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m delighted I made the decision to come here. I\u2019m trying to make the most of my career, but unfortunately, I\u2019m getting older.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not good to be 40, but it\u2019s always a thrill to be on the pitch thanks to the crowd, the emotions and the support they give me.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s one of the reasons why I keep fighting. I thank them,\u201d explained Wawrinka, whose last appearance at an ATP<\/a> Tour-level event came in July. <\/p>\n Stan Wawrinka is nearing the end of his illustrious career<\/p>\n Though he has found some success at Challenger level, Wawrinka\u2019s 2025 season has been another difficult one on the ATP Tour. <\/p>\n He has tallied a record of just two wins and 10 losses at tour-level events, and has crashed out in the first round of the two Grand Slams he has appeared at. <\/p>\n
