Over the past couple of weeks, a number of former cast members have announced that they won\u2019t be returning for this new season. This includes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comingsoon.net\/tv\/news\/2026692-snl-season-51-cast-shocked-with-another-surprise-exit\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ego Nwodim<\/a>, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, Heidi Gardner, and Michael Longfellow, as well as writers Celeste Yim and Rosebud Baker.<\/p>\n<p>What did Lorne Michaels say about the Saturday Night Live cast exits?<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=FN0hpNGD2_s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Entertainment Tonight<\/a> at the Emmy Awards, Michael addressed the recent casting changes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe show has always brought people in from different ages and different generations, and it\u2019s how it revives itself,\u201d he said. \u201cIt\u2019s always hard when people leave, but there\u2019s a time for that, and our audience has always stayed relatively young, and more so now with TikTok\u2026Change is good. The people we\u2019re bringing in, I\u2019m really excited about.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cast of Saturday Night Live Season 51 does include Chloe Fineman, Bowen Yang,\u00a0Kenan Thompson, Marcello Hern\u00e1ndez, Colin Jost, Michael Che, Mikey Day, James Austin Johnson, Andrew Dismukes, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla, Jane Wickline, Tommy Brennan, Jeremy Culhane, Kam Patterson,\u00a0Veronika Slowikowska, and Ben Marshall.<\/p>\n<p>The SNL50: The Anniversary Special took home the Best Variety Special (Live) at the Emmys, which were held on Sunday, September 14, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Michaels said in his speech, per <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/lorne-michaels-addresses-saturday-night-live-cast-shakeups-emmys-2025-11810010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Entertainment Weekly<\/a>, \u201cI won this award for the first time 50 years ago in 1975. I was younger and had a lot of dreams about what would happen in my life, and not one of those dreams was that I\u2019d still be doing the same show for the next 50 years. However, here we are.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Saturday Night Live is currently set to premiere its 51st season on NBC on October 4, 2025.
