The findings underscore the well-documented reality that hospitals and clinics are straining under turnover, burnout, <a href=\"https:\/\/journalofethics.ama-assn.org\/article\/why-improving-low-wage-health-care-jobs-critical-health-equity\/2022-09\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">pay pressures<\/a>, and an aging patient population \u2014 a dynamic that makes staffing shortages the new normal. The Harris Poll data is consistent with other recent studies that find between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techtarget.com\/revcyclemanagement\/news\/366600338\/1-in-3-Healthcare-Workers-Plan-to-Leave-Their-Position-Survey-Finds\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a third<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/ktla.com\/business\/press-releases\/globenewswire\/8859843\/sounding-the-alarm-on-healthcare-staffing-new-study-reveals-60-percent-of-all-healthcare-support-workers-expect-to-leave-their-job-in-the-next-five-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">a half<\/a> of frontline health-care employees are looking for an exit. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe pandemic was an accelerant of what was already existing with burnout in health-care workers,\u201d said <\/p>\n<p>, a physician at Harvard Medical School with expertise in stress, resilience, burnout, and mental health. \u201cBut there were new, added stressors and challenges during the pandemic, and now we are seeing a confluence of all of these factors.
