The Velvet Underground, a beloved music venue in Toronto\u2019s west end, is closing this fall. <\/p>\n
The Queen Street West venue announced its closure in a social media post<\/a>, saying its time has come after \u201cmany unforgettable years.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe lease term comes to an end at the end of October and the property will be returned to the owner for a new chapter,\u201d the post reads.<\/p>\n The venue did not elaborate in its post on what this \u201cnew chapter\u201d will look like for the west-end business. <\/p>\n \u201cWhile we\u2019re closing this door, we\u2019re grateful for the countless nights filled with music and amazing energy that brought this space to life.\u201d<\/p>\n The industrial club-turned-alternative music venue reopened its doors in February 2016 after conducting some renovations, holding a capacity of 355 people<\/a>, making it an intimate concert hall for music lovers. <\/p>\n \u201cTo the fans, artists, staff, and community\u2014thank you. You made this place more than a venue. You made it a home for memories we\u2019ll never forget,\u201d the post reads. <\/p>\n There are performances slated at The Velvet Underground up until Oct. 27 for concertgoers looking to catch an encore before the venue closes for good.<\/p>\n The closure of The Velvet Underground is the latest live music venue to shut down in Toronto, like Cold Tea Bar<\/a>, The Phoenix Concert Theatre<\/a>, the Hoxton and the Silver Dollar Room.<\/p>\n
