{"id":150318,"date":"2025-09-17T12:10:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-17T12:10:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/150318\/"},"modified":"2025-09-17T12:10:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-17T12:10:06","slug":"tim-davie-says-bbc-should-swagger-into-charter-renewal-talks","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/150318\/","title":{"rendered":"Tim Davie Says BBC Should &#8220;Swagger&#8221; Into Charter Renewal Talks"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/bbc\/\" id=\"auto-tag_bbc\" data-tag=\"bbc\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BBC<\/a> chief <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/tim-davie\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tim-davie\" data-tag=\"tim-davie\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tim Davie<\/a> has called on the corporation, and the broader TV industry, to \u201cadopt a bit of swagger\u201d about its importance to the British economy and society. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSpeaking at the Royal Television Society\u2019s Cambridge Convention, the director general said the BBC should be confident about its mission as it approaches charter renewal talks with the government.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t\u201cThe BBC is not perfect, but it acts as precious venture capital,\u201d he said, opening a two-day conference that has been titled \u2018Where Do We Grow From Here?.\u2019<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tDavie told a room full of TV industry luminaries that he was \u201cnot interested in self-survival\u201d during the charter renewal, which will establish the BBC\u2019s funding model, governance, and objectives over the next decade.
