Late-show hosts recap Donald Trump<\/a>\u2019s chilly reception in the UK, his corrupt business deals with the UAE and Maga\u2019s fearmongering around the \u201cradical left\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jimmy Kimmel<\/p>\n

On Monday night, Trump became the first US president to sue the New York Times<\/a>, for defamation to the tune of $15bn. \u201cWhere does he even come up with this?\u201d wondered Jimmy Kimmel<\/a> on Tuesday evening. \u201cThese are like numbers my children make up when they\u2019re talking about money.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought he said the New York Times was failing,\u201d he added. \u201cHe thinks they have $15bn? How much would he sue for if he thought they were doing well?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cHe won\u2019t win this. The New York Times won\u2019t settle,\u201d Kimmel noted. \u201cBesides how ridiculous it is, this might be one of the funniest legal documents I\u2019ve ever seen. It\u2019s quite a tongue bath.\u201d One page lists Trump\u2019s \u201chundreds of history-making appearances\u201d including WrestleMania V, All My Children, Ghosts Can\u2019t Do It, Two Weeks Notice, the Miss America pageants and \u201cmuch more\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is quite a resume,\u201d Kimmel deadpanned. \u201cYou know he met Melania on 90 Day Fiance.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, \u201cmany in Maga-land are working very hard to capitalize on the murder of Charlie Kirk\u201d. On Monday, JD Vance, who once called Trump \u201cAmerica\u2019s Hitler\u201d, hosted Kirk\u2019s podcast from the White House and blamed the left, without evidence. Said Vance: \u201cWhile our side of the aisle certainly has its crazies, it is a statistical fact that most of the lunatics in American politics today are proud members of the far left.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd by \u2018statistical fact\u2019, he means \u2018complete bullshit\u2019,\u201d Kimmel corrected. In fact, the Department of Justice removed from its website a study finding that violence from far-right groups is the greatest source of domestic terror and extremist violence in the US. \u201cHere\u2019s a question JD Vance might be able to answer: who wanted to hang the guy who was vice president before you?\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cWas that the liberal left? Or the toothless army who stormed the Capitol on January 6.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe president and his henchmen are doing their best to fan the flames, so they can I guess attack people on the dangerous left,\u201d Kimmel added, noting the incongruence with the right\u2019s former vision of so-called \u201csnowflake\u201d liberals. \u201cWhich is it?\u201d he wondered. \u201cAre they a bunch of sissy pickleball players because they\u2019re too scared to get hit by tennis balls? Or are they a well-organized army of commandos? Because they can\u2019t be both.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stephen Colbert<\/p>\n

On the Late Show, Stephen Colbert<\/a> celebrated the show\u2019s first Emmy win for outstanding variety talk series with their trophy on stage. \u201cMan, I\u2019m telling you, we should\u2019ve gotten cancelled years ago,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis award belongs to all 200 of the incredibly hardworking people who make this show,\u201d he said. \u201cFirst and foremost, the writers of this show\u201d as well as the \u201cstage crew, production staff, talent, segment editors, the band, control room, props, graphics, research, footage, digital, accounting, legal, wardrobe, makeup, security, maintenance, assistants and interns\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd, of course, the audience department who let in all of you gorgeous people every night,\u201d he added. \u201cYou are the ones who ultimately make this show possible. So this belongs to you, but I\u2019m going to keep it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSpeaking of Emmys, Donald Trump doesn\u2019t have one,\u201d he continued. \u201cAlso, right now, he\u2019s out of the country, making his second state visit to the UK. But for a state visit, Trump is going to be keeping it surprisingly low profile.\u201d The President will stay behind closed doors at Windsor Castle, far from massive planned protests and without delivering a traditional address to potential critics in Parliament. Still, protesters managed to unfurl a giant banner on the castle lawn with an old picture of Trump and his friend Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat are they going to do with it after Trump\u2019s state visit?\u201d Colbert wondered. \u201c\u2018Children, we have a donation of a very unfortunate parachute for today\u2019s gym class.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While he\u2019s there, Trump will be treated to an opulent banquet at Windsor Castle and a carriage ride through the grounds. \u201cOh, the pageantry!\u201d Colbert joked. \u201cHe\u2019s just like Cinderella, but good luck slipping the glass slipper on those cankles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seth Meyers<\/p>\n

And on Late Night, Seth Meyers<\/a> recapped a New York Times investigation into how the Trump family made $2bn in cryptocurrency deals<\/a> with the UAE, in exchange for giving the Emirati government access to advanced AI chips. \u201cWho am I to say that these two things are connected?\u201d Meyers joked. \u201cIt\u2019s totally possible that Donald Trump Sr was negotiating the chips deal while Donald Trump Jr was negotiating the crypto deal, and they had no idea until it was time to sign the contract, and then they both showed up at the same restaurant at the same time and said \u2018Don, what are you doing here?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is obviously, ludicrously corrupt,\u201d he said. When a reporter asked Trump on Tuesday about his business deals, Trump pivoted to \u201cwhat has recently become his favorite topic\u201d: the new White House ballroom, which Trump said \u201cwill knock your socks off\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cStop talking about the fucking ballroom!\u201d Meyers begged. \u201cNo one gives a shit about the ballroom. Prices are skyrocketing and our freedoms are disappearing all around us, and you\u2019re going on about a ballroom like a fop from Dangerous Liaisons.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou think the farmers in Iowa who voted for you are sitting down for coffee at their local diners saying, \u2018well, the tariffs are killing my business, but at least the White House will finally have a place to hold fancy proms?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Meyers also mocked Trump for threatening the Australian reporter who asked about the UAE deals with reporting on him to the Australian prime minister during their next visit.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a fucking tattletale,\u201d Meyers laughed. \u201cAlso you think you\u2019re going to scare an Australian? They live in a country that\u2019s mostly an unlivable desert, they have spiders the size of tennis rackets, but he\u2019s shaking in his boots because you\u2019re going to tell on him?\u201d<\/p>\n
