Taking a page out of Ayo Edebiri\u2019s book<\/a>, Madelaine Petsch would like people to understand that the cast of Riverdale were her co-workers. \u201cMay I set the record straight about something on Riverdale actually? I would love to do this on air,\u201d she declares in a new interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast. \u201cRecently an article came out saying that we all fucked each other on the show. I did not touch a single person on that show with a 10 foot pole. May I just repeat that one more time? I did not fuck a single person on Riverdale. I never touched them. That\u2019s what happened. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.\u201d<\/p>\n

The article in question was an Entertainment Weekly<\/a> interview<\/a> with Outer Banks\u2018 Madelyn Cline and Riverdale\u2018s KJ Apa, in which both admitted there can be a lot of drama on the set of a teen drama<\/a>. The cast spends a lot of time together and becomes like a family, they agreed, though a very particular kind of family. \u201cYou hook up with them, people hook up with each other,\u201d Apa declared. \u201cYou have sex with them and stuff, and then things start happening. And then things get a little complicated, and then you\u2019re on set, and now you\u2019re fighting with them,\u201d he shared. \u201cYou sort of just have sex with them<\/a>, and then you just sort of see what happens. It\u2019s just part of the deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Petsch didn\u2019t call out Apa by name, but still complained about \u201cthis article that came out that was like, \u2018We all fucked each other all the time.\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Hey, no, I did fuck not any of you. I don\u2019t claim that shit at all.’\u201d As it happens, Apa wasn\u2019t ever (publically) romantically linked to any of their co-stars on\u00a0Riverdale either. (Cline did date her Outer Banks co-star Chase Stokes.) But their co-stars Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse dated for a while, and Camila Mendes and Charles Melton were also a couple. All of these showmances were broken up by Riverdale\u2018s final season, and though it may have caused \u201cdrama\u201d in Apa\u2019s view, the women were at least able to have a sense of humor about it. Reinhart and Mendes posted a TikTok together<\/a> in 2022 with the caption, \u201cUs trying to figure out how to date people we don\u2019t work with.\u201d<\/p>\n

Petsch was able to avoid all this because \u201cI don\u2019t mix business and pleasure like that. I\u2019ve never hooked up with a co-star,\u201d she said. \u201cDo you know why though? You know what\u2019s really ironic about all this, is Cole sat me down during the pilot and was like, \u2018If I can give you one piece of advice Mads\u2026,’\u201d she recalled. \u201cHe was like, \u2018Hey, don\u2019t hook up with any of your costars, okay?\u201d And so I was like, \u2018Okay, got it.
