Augusta, Ga. – The Augusta University women’s golf team is ready for their third tournament of the fall as they head to Greenville, South Carolina for the Lady Paladin Invitational hosted by Furman Sept. 19-21. A year ago the Jags posted a seventh place finish in the event with Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy<\/a> winning medalist honors.\u00a0<\/p>\n Augusta has performed well here in the early going with a pair of sixth place finishes to start the year. The team is trending in the right direction.<\/p>\n “We’ve seen a lot of good things so far,” said coach Ember Holloway. “We’ve shown the ability to go low and to make lots of birdies. Now we need to polish up some things like short game work and taking advantage of the par-5’s and take advantage of our length.”<\/p>\n Another aspect of the game they need to improve on is keeping big numbers off the scorecard.\u00a0<\/p>\n “If you’re stuck in a spot, take your medicine and just go ahead and grab your bogey and move on,” Holloway added.<\/p>\n Newcomers Sofia Valera<\/a> and Puntita Pawichai<\/a>\u00a0are coming off top 20 finishes at The Southern, and will be joined by Marine Legentil<\/a>, Sara Adams<\/a> and Jessica Pilgrim<\/a> in the starting lineup.\u00a0<\/p>\n Valera finished 15th in Statesboro, Ga. and Holloway sees a lot of good traits in her.<\/p>\n “She’s just very consistent and has a good sense for the game,” said Holloway. “She’s one of those that can take it low and is not scary to take it low which is very cool to see and she’s just been a huge impact right away.”\u00a0<\/p>\n The Lady Paladin Invitational will be held at Furman University Golf Course with 18 holes each day.
