Reese Witherspoon<\/a> is opening up about not being cast in the Gone Girl<\/a> movie. <\/p>\n

The 49-year-old actress and producer really wanted to star in the film adaptation, and even had author and screenwriter Gillian Flynn\u2018s blessing. However, the director, David Fincher<\/a> did not want to cast her. <\/p>\n

While appearing on Las Culturistas, Reese explained what went wrong and why she wasn\u2019t cast to play Amy Dunne, which ended up going to Rosamund Pike<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\u201cDavid sat me down \u2013 and this is not on David \u2013 but David\u2019s like, \u2018You\u2019re totally wrong for this part, and I\u2019m not putting you in it,\u2019\u201d Reese told hosts Bowen Yang<\/a> and Matt Rogers<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Reese explained that Gone Girl was the film that started her producing career. <\/p>\n

\u201cI had all these conversations with the writer Gillian Flynn, and she was like, \u2018No, I\u2019d really like you to do it,\u2019\u201d she said about the talks of starring. \u201cBut he was like, \u2018You\u2019re wrong.\u2019 That was first of all, an ego check for me. I was like, \u2018No, you\u2019re not right for everything.\u2019 And he was right. He was totally right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bowen then asked, \u201cBut why was he right? How did he rationalize that to you?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cHe didn\u2019t have to, he\u2019s David Fincher,\u201d Reese responded. \u201cHe literally says it this easy: \u2018You\u2019re wrong for this part and I\u2019m not putting you in it.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She was then asked if her fame and notoriety played a part in David\u2019s decision. <\/p>\n

\u201cI think that is probably for him, yes. I brought an audience with me that likes me and wants me to win,\u201d she added, admitting that she doesn\u2019t feel she presents as someone who\u2019s \u201csinister or diabolical\u201d like the character called for. <\/p>\n

\u201cProducing also means get out of the way when you\u2019re supposed to,\u201d Reese continued. \u201cDo your job to promote, continued to pull people together, continue to build creative groups so that the ultimate result is the best work that it could possibly be.\u201d<\/p>\n
