{"id":152263,"date":"2025-09-18T08:17:09","date_gmt":"2025-09-18T08:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/152263\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T08:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T08:17:09","slug":"george-russell-to-miss-azerbaijan-grand-prix-media-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/152263\/","title":{"rendered":"George Russell to miss Azerbaijan Grand Prix media day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/mercedes\/5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Mercedes<\/a> has confirmed that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/george-russell\/21167\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">George Russell<\/a> will miss the Azerbaijan Grand Prix media day due to illness.<\/p>\n<p>The British driver will miss his media day duties to rest up ahead of the on-track action tomorrow for the first two practice sessions at the Baku City Circuit.<\/p>\n<p>The Brackley outfit confirmed, &#8220;Unfortunately, George won\u2019t be at track today because he\u2019s feeling unwell and resting up ahead of tomorrow\u2019s track action.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>No further updates have been issued at this stage.<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes is looking to improve on performance following the Italian Grand Prix, and getting out for all of the practice sessions will be important for this. Russell crossed the line fifth in Monza and his team-mate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/driver\/andrea-kimi-antonelli\/953412\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Andrea Kimi Antonelli<\/a> finished ninth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the &#8216;European&#8217; part of the year now complete, we begin the final third of the season this weekend,\u201d team chief Toto Wolff explained in the Mercedes Azerbaijan Grand Prix preview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be an intense run to the flag in Abu Dhabi, with three teams in the fight for second in the Constructors&#8217; Championship. We lost some ground to our competitors in Monza and know we need to perform better in the closing eight races than we did in Italy if we are to come out on top.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0He added,\u00a0\u201cThe &#8216;flyaway&#8217; races start with two street circuits. It is a good test for both the car and the driver.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mercedes currently sits third in the constructors&#8217; standings, 20 points behind\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.motorsport.com\/team\/ferrari\/3\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Ferrari<\/a>\u00a0in second place and 21 points ahead of Red Bull in fourth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grid is tight, and once again small margins will make a big difference.
