Halsey<\/a> is speaking out about where her music career currently stands.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old The Great Impersonator star spoke out during a conversation with Zane Lowe<\/a> about the commercial performance of her 2024 studio album, and where things stand with her label today.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t make an album right now. I\u2019m not allowed to,\u201d she explained, addressing the performance of her latest album.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause The Great Impersonator didn\u2019t perform that the way they thought it was going to. And if I\u2019m being honest with you, the album sold 100,000 f\u2013king copies first week. That\u2019s a pretty big first week, especially for an artist who hasn\u2019t had a hit in a long time. The tour is the highest selling tour of my entire career. But they want Manic numbers from me,\u201d she went on.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t do that every single time. It should be good enough that I do it once in a while\u2026but it\u2019s not. It\u2019s not. And what would be considered a success for most artists, a success story, 100,000 albums first week in an era where we don\u2019t sell physical music, okay? With no radio hit, nothing.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cBut it\u2019s a failure\u2026in the context of the kind of success that I\u2019ve had previously. And that\u2019s the hardest part, I think, of having been a pop star once. I\u2019m not one anymore, but I\u2019m being compared to numbers and to other people that I don\u2019t consider lateral to me. But if my record comes out and sells 100,000 copies first week with no radio play, no real support, and the comparison is, well, why isn\u2019t she doing Taylor Swift<\/a> numbers? Are you f\u2013king kidding me?\u201d Halsey said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI made an experimental concept album about how I almost f\u2013king died. I\u2019m not gonna do those numbers, but I\u2019m doing pretty damn good. Those are strong numbers. It\u2019s still in the top 10 of female artists\u2019 first weeks. But it\u2019s not good enough because it\u2019s not the pop star I once was. To the other types of artists who are making the type of music that I am making, I\u2019m f\u2013king killing it. But that\u2019s not what I\u2019m up against,\u201d she continued, adding, \u201cAnd because of that, I\u2019m at the bottom of a category that I\u2019m not in anymore, when I should be at the top of a category that I\u2019m in now.\u201d Watch her explain above at the 51:26 mark.<\/p>\n
