With the NASCAR<\/a> Cup Series playoffs raging on, the argument among fans and industry insiders around the system\u2019s credibility in aptly assessing the season champion won\u2019t stop anytime soon. Defending champion Joey Logano has been the primary figure facing immense fire from the fans, as many believe he wasn\u2019t a deserving candidate for the title last year.<\/p>\n

Of late, though, several voices have started rising in favor of the current system, and a NASCAR veteran in Jeff Burton has just joined the argument.<\/p>\n

What Did Jeff Burton Say on Joey Logano\u2019s NASCAR Championship Run?<\/p>\n

Last year, Logano finished the regular season with seven top-fives and 13 top-ten finishes. Owing to the same, his average finish in 2024 stood around 17.1, making it the worst average finish for a Cup Series champion in NASCAR history.<\/p>\n

Ever since, the argument around the playoff system favoring one race luck over season-long consistency has been raging on. The likes of Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Mark Martin have presented several options to change the format, but to no avail.<\/p>\n

While they continue to speak against it, Burton has had enough. The veteran is getting \u201cpi**ed off\u201d by all the noise against Logano<\/a>, and he feels that the hate is undeserved.<\/p>\n

Speaking\u00a0recently on the\u00a0Door Bumper Clear Podcast<\/a>, the 58-year-old made it clear that a championship is a championship, no matter the\u00a0circumstances under which it was won.<\/p>\n

Burton said, \u201cNASCAR\u2019s got a decision they have to make, and they are going to make it. And whoever wins the championship, whatever the rules are, that\u2019s the deserving champion. It pisses me off when somebody says, \u2018Joey Logano didn\u2019t win the championship.\u2019 Bullsh**! He won the championship.\u201d<\/p>\n

Burton added that NASCAR had laid down a set of rules, which Logano followed better than anyone else. The 35-year-old made the most of this when it mattered most, allowing the Team Penske driver to capture his third career Cup Series title.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was a set of rules, and they went out and did it better than everybody else. You may not like that they won the championship, I get it, I understand that. But don\u2019t take the credit away from them for what they did,\u201d Burton added.<\/p>\n

As things stand, heading into the New Hampshire race, Logano is on the brink of elimination, currently sitting two points below the cutline for the Round of 8.
