One of the region\u2019s most prestigious institutions for physics is celebrating a big milestone with a week-long festival.<\/p>\n
From September 20-27, Perimeter Institute (PI) will be holding several events to mark it\u2019s 25th anniversary, including a two day event called PI-25. <\/p>\n
On Saturday, PI will will be taking part in Doors Open Waterloo by hosting tours of their facility from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.<\/p>\n
Several events held throughout the week will commemorate its past and look ahead to the future, including a keynote address from Perimeter\u2019s Founder, Mike Lazaridis, and the inaugural Perimeter Circle Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n Mark Healy, the director of communications and public engagement at PI, said the institute has worked on some of the most perplexing questions in the universe, and is doing so in a multi-disciplinary, collaborative way.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re building on the grand traditions of other physicists from eras past from Einstein to Marie Curie to names that lots of folks would recognize,\u201d said Healy.<\/p>\n The Perimeter Institute officially launched on Oct. 23, 2000. Mike Lazaridis, who also founded BlackBerry, donated $100 million to get the institute started. In 2004, it opened its doors with a custom built facility in Waterloo.<\/p>\n
