{"id":157820,"date":"2025-09-20T21:19:06","date_gmt":"2025-09-20T21:19:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/157820\/"},"modified":"2025-09-20T21:19:06","modified_gmt":"2025-09-20T21:19:06","slug":"underground-science-inspires-sudbury-photographers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/157820\/","title":{"rendered":"Underground science inspires Sudbury photographers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After capturing life and research two kilometres underground, three Sudburians are now contenders in an international physics photography contest.<\/p>\n<p>An international award could be in the mix for three Sudbury-based amateur photographers who\u2019ll have a chance at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interactions.org\/global-physics-photowalk-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Global Physics Photowalk 2025 competition<\/a> thanks to a competition a little closer to home \u2014 but still about two kilometres underground.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tasked with capturing the people and science that make Sudbury\u2019s deep underground research lab tick, eight Sudbury-based amateur photographers took part in the SNOLAB Photowalk Competition in May.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each photographer submitted five photos, and following \u201can internal adjudication process,\u201d 40 images were narrowed down to three.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Those three photos will be submitted to the Global Photowalk Competition, created by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.interactions.org\/about-interactions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Interactions Collaboration<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The top three images from SNOLAB are:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n\tDelicate Work by Jason Innes\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tRough et pr\u00eat by David Gagnon\u00a0&#13;<br \/>\n\tSNOLAB under the surface by Ingris Leiva&#13;<\/p>\n<p>A global shortlist will be announced later in September, followed by a public vote online. A selection of the winning photos will be published in the<a href=\"https:\/\/cerncourier.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> CERN Courier and Symmetry magazine.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In addition to the global competition, SNOLAB will curate local exhibits of work from all eight\u00a0 local photowalk participants later this fall.
