— The 2025-26 season got underway at home for the Eastern Michigan University tennis program as the Eagles played host to the Block E Invitational, Sept. 19-20, at the Chippewa Club. The Eagles welcomed players from Bowling Green State University, Oakland University, the University of Toledo, and Youngstown State University to town with all players slated to play three singles and three doubles matches on the outdoor courts in Ypsilanti.

\nA pair of freshmen got off to hot starts for the Eagles as both Matilde Parreira<\/a> (Leiria, Portugal\/Escola Secund\u00e1ria Afonso Lopes) and Cylova Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya<\/a> (Serang, Indonesia\/SMAN 2 Kota Serang) posted 3-0 records in singles play to capture group titles while both also added wins in doubles play. Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya won all three of her matches in Group 2 in straight sets, including a 6-4, 6-4 decision over YSU’s Hanna Telzynksa in her EMU and collegiate debut. She captured the group title with a 6-2, 6-4 defeat of UT’s Jone Ibanez. Parreira also posted a 3-0 record as she won the Group 8 title. She opened her collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-3 win over BGSU’s Brynn Chaffee before winning her final two matches in straight sets as well.

\nPehal Kharadkar<\/a> (Indore, India\/Daly College Indore) opened her collegiate career with a 6-2, 6-3 win in Group 5 over Line Greyling (YSU), but fell in her final two matches to tie for third in her group. She later secured her first doubles win as well as she joined with Regina Mendez Carre\u00f1o (Los Cabos, Mexico\/Picacho McGregor) to take a 6-1 score. The pairings of Lara Diaz Zayas<\/a> (Mar de Ajo, Argentina\/SEADEA) and Zuleyka Hukmasabiyya at Group 1 and Parreira and Sabrina Tolstova<\/a> (Odesa, Ukraine\/Tennisquick Los Cristianos) at Group 2 each secured a first-round win before falling in their final two matches.

\nThe Eagles are back in action Oct. 3-5 with a select group of players heading to Kalamazoo, Mich., to compete in the 2025 Mid-American Conference Fall Individuals, hosted by Western Michigan University at West Hills Athletic Club. The winners of the singles and doubles titles will earn the league’s automatic berths into the NCAA Championships in November.
