This projection is a classic overreaction. Practice matters, but a 20-minute session isn\u2019t highly predictive. Starting position seems to matter more in the Gen-7 car. Bell lines up in the middle of the field. It\u2019s not a great spot, but if anyone can overcome a sub-par qualifying effort, it\u2019s Bell. He\u2019s a championship contender, and New Hampshire is his best track. He\u2019s been an absolute dominant force at New Hampshire in all three touring series. He won his lone Truck Series start at Loudon and all four of his Xfinity Series entries. Bell dominated the 2024 Cup Series race. He won the 2022 event and was the runner-up in the old racing package in 2021. Bell needs a top-5 finish and a couple of fastest laps along the way to clear this low bar.<\/p>\n

The bar is much lower for Briscoe than for Bell. The JGR Toyotas won every race in Round 1 of the NASCAR playoffs. JGR could come out on top again, but it won\u2019t be Briscoe on top of the podium. Briscoe\u2019s first season in the No. 19 JGR Toyota has been phenomenal. The argument could be made that Briscoe has been better than late-career Martin Truex Jr. However, a lot of Briscoe\u2019s success starts on Saturday. He qualifies up front and holdsa position in a racing package where passing is limited. Briscoe didn\u2019t qualify on the front row. He starts in the middle of the pack. His teammate can pass, given his prowess at New Hampshire. Briscoe has not demonstrated that skill in his initial season with JGR.<\/p>\n
Briscoe doesn\u2019t need a top-5 finish like Bell, but he does need a top 10. That\u2019s a tall ask given the abilities of the drivers starting in the front half of the field.<\/p>\n
