The difference in the SEC\u2019s 8-game conference vs the Big Ten\u2019s 9 conference games has been a key issue in trying to figure out the College Football Playoff format for the 2026 season and beyond. On Wednesday, one B1G coach took aim at another aspect of the SEC schedule.<\/p>\n<p>Washington head coach Jedd Fisch, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saturdaydownsouth.com\/college-football\/teams\/florida\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Florida<\/a> alum and former graduate assistant under Steve Spurrier, appeared to call out SEC teams for scheduling FCS opponents late in the season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NFL doesn\u2019t play the CFL in the middle of the season,\u201d Fisch said, per Reddit \/r\/CFB.<\/p>\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Washington\u2019s Jedd Fisch has strong opinions on scheduling, and what he sees as issues with those in the SEC: \u201cThe NFL doesn\u2019t play the CFL in the middle of the season.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WAeZqmf252\" rel=\"nofollow\">pic.twitter.com\/WAeZqmf252<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RedditCFB (@RedditCFB) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RedditCFB\/status\/1948164047373029458?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">July 23, 2025<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Frustration with Cupcake Week in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.saturdaydownsouth.com\/sec-football\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SEC<\/a> is nothing new. While SEC teams play difficult schedules, including many Power 4 opponents early in the season, those outside the SEC community have complained about SEC teams picking up easy victories during weeks that the College Football Playoff selection committee is issuing rankings.<\/p>\n<p>As it\u2019s frequently pointed out, Big Ten teams do play FCS squads, often in the earliest weeks of the season. Fisch\u2019s UW team will host UC Davis from the FCS in Week 2.
