ST. LOUIS, Mo. — The University of Chicago women’s tennis team\u00a0continues to dominate at the 2025 ITA Central Regional Tournament through Saturday night. The Maroons\u00a0have compiled records of 5-4 record in doubles and a 17-5 record in singles in the invitational.<\/p>\n
In singles play to open the contest, all six Maroons had tough matchups in the Round of 16. Anika Paul<\/a> led the Maroons with a big win over the #4 overall seed, Eleanor Archer from WashU. After a tough first set that Paul was able to pull out 7-6(7-5), she picked up an early break of serve in the second set and rode that to victory with a 6-3 win in the second set. Sarena Biria<\/a> also reached the Quarterfinals with a win over the #5 overall seed, Caitlin Bui from WashU, as she won the first set and bounced back to win the third set as well for a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory.\u00a0Clara Zou<\/a> and Lily Zawaneh<\/a> sent their matches to three sets, but they both fell short to players from WashU.<\/p>\n Then, in the quarterfinals, Paul fought through another tough first set, taking the set in a tiebreak, and despite\u00a0dropping the opening game of the second set, she was able to rattle off six of the next seven games to advance to take down #9 Katalina Wang from Case Western and advance to the semifinals. Biria also struggled in a tough first set, but with the set knotted up at 5-5, she was able to hold serve and earn a break to take the first set 7-5. She would then proceed to rattle off eight of the final nine games to take the 7-5, 6-1 win to join Paul in the semifinals.<\/p>\n In the doubles semifinals, Lauren Khou<\/a> and Lily Zawaneh<\/a> opened off to a hot start with a pair of service holds and a break of serve to take a 3-0 lead. However, the Bears then answered with five straight games of their own, four of which came on deciding deuce points, to go up a break a 5-3. The deficit would be too much for the Maroons to overcome, and the Bears would hold on for the 8-3 victory.<\/p>\n Sarena Biria<\/a> and Anika Paul<\/a> will battle each other in the semifinals at 9 AM with the winner advancing to the ITA Central Regional Finals at 12:30 PM.
