LOUIS, Mo. — The University of Chicago women’s tennis team continues to dominate at the 2025 ITA Central Regional Tournament through Saturday night. The Maroons have compiled records of 5-4 record in doubles and a 17-5 record in singles in the invitational.

In singles play to open the contest, all six Maroons had tough matchups in the Round of 16. Anika Paul led the Maroons with a big win over the #4 overall seed, Eleanor Archer from WashU. After a tough first set that Paul was able to pull out 7-6(7-5), she picked up an early break of serve in the second set and rode that to victory with a 6-3 win in the second set. Sarena Biria also reached the Quarterfinals with a win over the #5 overall seed, Caitlin Bui from WashU, as she won the first set and bounced back to win the third set as well for a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Clara Zou and Lily Zawaneh sent their matches to three sets, but they both fell short to players from WashU.

Then, in the quarterfinals, Paul fought through another tough first set, taking the set in a tiebreak, and despite dropping the opening game of the second set, she was able to rattle off six of the next seven games to advance to take down #9 Katalina Wang from Case Western and advance to the semifinals. Biria also struggled in a tough first set, but with the set knotted up at 5-5, she was able to hold serve and earn a break to take the first set 7-5. She would then proceed to rattle off eight of the final nine games to take the 7-5, 6-1 win to join Paul in the semifinals.

In the doubles semifinals, Lauren Khou and Lily Zawaneh opened off to a hot start with a pair of service holds and a break of serve to take a 3-0 lead. However, the Bears then answered with five straight games of their own, four of which came on deciding deuce points, to go up a break a 5-3. The deficit would be too much for the Maroons to overcome, and the Bears would hold on for the 8-3 victory.

Sarena Biria and Anika Paul will battle each other in the semifinals at 9 AM with the winner advancing to the ITA Central Regional Finals at 12:30 PM.

SINGLES RESULTS:
* Round of 16 – #9 Sarena Biria d. #5 Caitlin Bui (WashU) (6-3, 3-6, 6-4)
* Round of 16 – #9 Anika Paul d. #4 Eleanor Archer (WashU) (7-6(7-5), 6-3)
* Round of 16 – #9 Lily Brecknock (WashU) d. #1 Clara Zou (6-4, 2-6, 6-2)
* Round of 16 – #17 Kiara Komlodi (Kenyon) d. #8 Tina Kintiroglou (6-3, 6-4)
* Round of 16 – #3 Ally Lin (WashU) d. #9 Lily Zawaneh (6-2, 2-6, 7-6(10-8))
* Round of 16 – #6 Eliana Hanna (WashU) d. #9 Isabelle Chong (6-1, 6-2)
* Quarterfinals – #9 Sarena Biria d. #9 Lily Brecknock (WashU) (7-5, 6-1)
* Quarterfinals – #9 Anika Paul d. #9 Katalina Wang (Case Western) (7-6(7-3), 6-2))

DOUBLES RESULTS:
* 4 PM – Semifinals – #4 Ally Lin / Eliana Hanna (WashU) d. #5 Lauren Khou / Lily Zawaneh (8-4)

MONDAY SINGLES SCHEDULE:
* 9 AM – Semifinals – #9 Sarena Biria vs. #9 Anika Paul
* 9 AM – Semifinals – #6 Eliana Hanna (WashU) vs. #17 Kiara Komlodi (Kenyon)
* 12:30 PM – Finals – Winners of each semifinal

Story Links    ST.
