LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Minnesota State women’s golf team finished round one of the Jewell Invitational with a three-stroke lead Monday.<\/p>\n
As a unit, MSU shot a 295 (+11) at the par-71 Jewell Golf Club. Arkansas Fort-Smith trails the Mavericks in second place with a 298 (+14).<\/p>\n
“The women played a really good round of golf,” head coach Alex Schmitz<\/a> said. “Emerson carding a hole in one on 15 was the highlight of the day. It’s really fun to see the women continue to play well.”<\/p>\n Junior Victoria Woytassek<\/a> finished the round in first place in the individual standings as she shot a 70 (-1), which included five birdies, four of which came on the back nine.<\/p>\n Sophomore Emerson Garlie<\/a> followed right behind in second place as she finished the day even at 71. Garlie recorded two birdies on the front nine before she notched a hole in one on the 168-yard par three on 15.<\/p>\n Senior Samantha Youngquist<\/a> shot a 76 (+5) to finish the round in 11th place, while both senior Ava Olson<\/a> and sophomore Mila Jenniges<\/a> finished the day in 19th place with scores of 78 (+7). Junior Lauryn Keller<\/a> finished in 26th place as well with an 80 (+9).<\/p>\n Minnesota State wraps up the Jewell Invitational on Tuesday.
