{"id":162627,"date":"2025-09-23T01:09:10","date_gmt":"2025-09-23T01:09:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/162627\/"},"modified":"2025-09-23T01:09:10","modified_gmt":"2025-09-23T01:09:10","slug":"tech-war-huaweis-computing-cluster-to-power-ai-projects-challenge-us-platforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/ca\/162627\/","title":{"rendered":"Tech war: Huawei\u2019s computing cluster to power AI projects, challenge US platforms"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Atlas 950 and Atlas 960 SuperPoDs, as well as the Atlas 950 and Atlas 960 SuperClusters, are expected to help the <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/shenzhen?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shenzhen<\/a>-based firm \u201ccircumvent the limitations in China\u2019s chip manufacturing process\u201d, Huawei deputy chairman <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/eric-xu-zhijun?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Eric Xu Zhijun<\/a>, who serves as the privately held company\u2019s rotating chairman from April to September, told Chinese media on the sidelines of the Huawei Connect 2025 conference in <a target=\"_self\" class=\"e1yy41x40 ef9u0v01 css-1ankfgb ecgc78b0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scmp.com\/topics\/shanghai?module=inline&amp;pgtype=article\" title=\"\" data-qa=\"BaseLink-renderAnchor-StyledAnchor\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Shanghai<\/a> last week.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">By the fourth quarter of next year, Huawei plans to release the Atlas 950 SuperPoD that is powered by 8,192 Ascend neural processing unit (NPU) cards \u2013 optimised for AI neural networks and machine learning tasks and applications.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Atlas 960 SuperPoD, powered by up to 15,488 Ascend 960 NPU cards, will be available by the end of 2027, according to Huawei.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">The Atlas 950 and 960 SuperClusters are large-scale computing clusters that comprise multiple Huawei SuperPoDs. The Atlas 950 SuperCluster, available by the end of 2026, will have more than 500,000 Ascend NPUs, while the Atlas 960 SuperCluster will have more than 1 million Ascend NPUs.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">With the \u201cworld\u2019s most powerful\u201d SuperPoDs and SuperClusters, Huawei has what it takes to provide \u201cabundant computing power for ongoing, rapid advancements in AI, both now and in the future,\u201d Xu said.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Huawei deputy chairman Eric Xu Zhijun speaks at the opening of the Huawei Connect 2025 conference last Thursday.
