Following Disney\u2019s decision to resume airing new episodes of \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d<\/a> beginning Tuesday, TV station group owner Nexstar Media said it will continue to preempt the show.<\/p>\n

Nexstar said in a statement Tuesday morning: \u201cWe made a decision last week to preempt \u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2019 following what ABC referred to as Mr. Kimmel\u2019s \u2018ill-timed and insensitive\u2019 comments at a critical time in our national discourse. We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company continued, \u201cIn the meantime, we note that \u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2019 will be available nationwide on multiple Disney-owned streaming products, while our stations will focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nexstar operates 28 ABC-affiliated stations. Its decision comes after Sinclair, another big station group, announced Monday it will preempt \u201cJimmy Kimmel\u00a0Live!\u201d<\/a> across the 38 ABC\u00a0local stations it operates beginning Tuesday, despite Disney\u2019s end of the Kimmel suspension. \u201cBeginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting \u2018Jimmy Kimmel Live!\u2018 across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming,\u201d a Sinclair representative said in a statement. \u201cDiscussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show\u2019s potential return.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nexstar and Sinclair\u2019s refusal to air \u201cKimmel\u201d means that nearly one-third of the roughly 240 national ABC stations will not carry the program for the time being.<\/p>\n

Last week, Disney pulled Kimmel\u2019s late-night show after Nexstar and Sinclair said they would not be airing \u201cJimmy Kimmel Live!\u201d on ABC in their respective markets following the host\u2019s on-air comments about the killer of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Disney, Nexstar and Sinclair\u2019s initial decisions were made after FCC chair Brendan Carr suggested the agency would investigate \u201cnews distortion\u201d complaints against ABC stations unless they pulled Kimmel off the air.<\/p>\n

Following several days of discussion among top Disney brass, Disney announced Monday that Kimmel\u2019s suspension had ended: \u201cLast Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.\u201d<\/p>\n
